Pros: Free, Tons of Heroes, Mac/Linux/Windows,Best Engine, Modes that suit each type of player (Casual, Matchmaking, Practice, Bots, Midwars), Fast-Paced

Cons: Learning curve, Community (Joining a mature clan negates this), Popularity

Been playing it since 2009. Nothing compares. I have played all 4 moba games and I will debate non-stop about the greatness of this game. The servers are hardly ever down, there are tons of heroes constantly being added, and it's just a fun environment. So most of you are probably wondering... why should I play this game if my friends all play League or Dota2? Well it's your call. Just don't be a band wagoner! I cringe ever time I evne have to touch either LoL or Dota2 but I'll play them with my friends every once and awhile.

Why do I like HON?

It's challenging. The skill level is high. Mistakes are costly. This makes you a really good player as you learn to avoid situations in the game that are risky and could lead to your team losing the game. I have pretty much 0 negatives about the game. I've yet to really find anything wrong with it besides the occasional ragers but those guys are in all games. Some people complain about the lack of competivite scene but I mean what can you do when it's not as popular? Plus... maybe only just 1-2% are even interested in palying these games competiviely. It doesn't represent the general userbase at all.

LoL vs Dota2 vs HoN
LoL is pretty much "HON's" casual/easy mode. You don't have to deny, it's more anime-ish, etc. People mainly have only moved to LoL and Dota2 because of their popularity. LoL was popular because it was the first free to play game after Dota. that's the only reason. Hon came after and attempted the one time $30 fee which WAS so much better than the LoL's "mmo type marketing strategy". Teens and people from other countries are more attracted to the F2P style though which is why the LoL userbase skyrocketed. Unfortuntaely S2 games eventually had to go F2P to compete with LoL but by that time LoL had already generated too much of a userbase to catch up with. That my folks is how the worst MOBA game goes from nothing to a huge userbase.

On the side note with Dota2, they have the company Valve behind them. That is why their game was an instant hit. I still think HON trumps Dota2 in every way imaginable though. You can concede, it's faster based, and quite frankly it's more competitive and challenging. The movement speed of dota2 is terrible. It's like going from a 40ms to 350ms spike if you switch back and forth. The average hon user would easily win over the dota2/LoL user just because they'd naturally have much quicker reaction times.

In conclusion, I'm not trying to make this review biased... but I mean it's a game review and I'm frustrated. Why am I frustrated? Because I see people playing 2 other MOBA's that just arne't as good and so I'm trying to make my case. With that said, S2 Games has recently taken a big shift in management and I'm hoping for much more great things to come. Most come to the conclusion that you just have to try them all out and pick for yourself. So there you go!
Heroes of Newerth
Description:

Heroes of Newerth (commonly known as HoN) is a free-to-play science fantasy, action real-time strategy game developed by S2 Games for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. The game was heavily inspired by the Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne custom map, Defense of the Ancients and is S2 Games' first game title in the Dota genre. The game was released on May 12, 2010 and re-released as a free-to-play game on July 29, 2011. Heroes of Newerth pits two teams of players against each other: the Legion and the Hellbourne. Both teams are based at opposite corners of the map in their respective bases. Bases consist of buildings, creep spawn points, towers, a hero spawning pool, and a central structure. The goal of the game is to either destroy the central structure, world tree (Legion) or Sacrificial Shrine (Hellbourne), of the opposite base or force the other team to concede. Players achieve this by selecting heroes with unique skills to combat the other team.
