[OCN Labs] In Win 509 ROG Gaming eATX - Red and Black by Duality92

review by duality92

BKXGaj.png

Hello fine people of Overclock.net. Today, for the third time, I will be reviewing a case from In Win. Each new case I get from them for review, I'm amazed by their innovations that are not seen in other cases. This case is someone like a dual chamber case, but not really with an internal mount for a radiator.

As with other In Win cases, I want to thank them for these great opportunities. Now let's jump in.

General Specifications

eRqQiI.png

Cooling

This case can accomodate quite a few fans and radiators, 120mm and 140mm are welcomed in this case with possibilities for dual radiators in the front middle (360/420 middle and 240/280 front). Yes, dual rads in the front of the case. If this hasn't gotten your attention yet, keep going

(you should keep going regardless

Box and Packaging

w7nzft.jpg
unWyQn.jpg
V4iuLy.jpg

As with the 303, the box is informative about the content specifications and clearly indicate the what's inside. The case itself is held in the box by 8 big corner foam pieces. From my experience other case manufacturers use two huge full side pieces which seem a bit more secure, but all my In Win cases arrived in flawless condition regardless. The In Win black cloth bag along with accessories and manual in a thick zip locked bag as the 303 and 805.

Exterior

5aQKC5.jpg

Then it hit me, the case was sliding on my patio table. I quickly turned it over to see why and noticed there were no rubber case feet! They don't come pre-installed! They're simply in the bag! Now, this isn't really a big issue, but this is the first ever case I've ever reviewed or gotten like this! I mean the only I've gotten that I needed to install feet were Case Labs and Frozen-Q, but these cases come completely disassembled so it's fine. In Win, could you please make these factory installed in the future?

Front tempered glass, side tempered glass (with massive HDR) with the "ROG Certified logo". The front glass is raised to leave room for an intake, something that the 805 did not have, this is a great feature! One of the side panel glass stand offs was crooked, I didn't tight it much because I was afraid it'd put too much pressure on the glass and shatter it (tempered glass can do this). The back side panel shows ventilation on the front chambered-ish area and the rear expansions shows us 8 red painted vented covers.

Rear Expansion, I/O, fan and PSU.

WX25Yl.jpg
32EXcJ.jpg
J4Hiyk.jpg

Room for 120mm or 140mm fans, 8 expansion slots and a PSU slot that can house a PSU in both orientations, fan facing up or down. We can also see the bottom fan filter, I wish all manufacturers would make the filter removable from the front, it's very inconvenient having it removable only by the back.

General Interior

HZPv9S.jpg

We can see that out of the box, the case can hold tons of storage and has possibility for great cooling. The red accent seen comes with the ROG Certified edition of the case. I think it's bold and adds a nice touch to the case.

Storage Options

q3ZdXa.jpg
5RcQ8u.jpg
hMP0s4.jpg
LKsk9f.jpg
8RgZni.jpg
v6KGMJ.jpg

So, the case comes with five plastic caddies with rubber groments, three of these are on the bottom with a Sata power and data back plane which is a great feature and rarely seen. Four steel caddies can be found in the front chamber for a total of 9 storage caddies that can all hold either 3.5" drives or 2.5" drives. The plastic caddies have rubber grommets as previously mentioned and are tool less. These are the same caddies that are in the 805 (Pretty sure anyways). The steel ones feature a fixed thumb screw which is also toolless, but does not damper hard drive vibrations.

Front chamber

zzlLxT.jpg
5rY4dF.jpg

Now, I didn't say too much in the intro, but damn the front chamber of this case is versatile. These are so many hardware and cooling options possible. Fans can be installed on the front, on the middle place and on the back wall exhausting or as intake from the back side panel. All of these can accommodate radiators and fans while some can include storage. Possibilities are very extensive. I suggest keeping the back wall as exhaust because it is not filtered.

Case rear from the interior

lQkFd0.jpg
3oDIq1.jpg

The red expansion slot covers are a win if your build has any kind of red theme going, the red accents on this case are very bold as I've said, but not overwhelming, which is great. 8 full expansions slots make for a quad SLI or crossfire build possible.

Front I/O

biuMmv.jpg
TsE7RP.jpg
Cn1lcA.jpg
CNmSog.jpg

The front includes four Sata 3.0 ports, HD Audio and power/reset buttons along with a single 5.25" bay. The case also features a full RGB logo illuminator which can be connected to compatible motherboard for full control.

Tempered glass stand offs

6n7UwN.jpg

The tempered glass standoffs are very similar to almost all cases that have tempered glass. As I've said though, the bottom rear standoff is crooked on my sample case.

Rear panel ventilation

YPYxXP.jpg

? la 303 and 805, the rear side panel has large patterned hex styled openings. I really think this looks great and allows for proper ventilation.

Rear features

lrLxPE.jpg
wVBIle.jpg
9SbQkv.jpg
8m1Gnz.jpg
AxbPlm.jpg

Fully grommeted cable management holes is great. Cables for the bottom three storage drives are not sleeved, but are hidden behind so it's not really a biggie. SATA cables are black, that's nice though. We can see the slot for the GPU leveling bracket and much of the steel storage caddies. The two top drive slots have two large openings for cable management of those. Rear spacing is standard on this case and should enable users to have great cable management.

Accessories and manual

alJmYt.jpg
uvoufH.jpg

Accessories are standard apart from the RGB header to Sata in the event that you don't have a compatible motherboard along with a GPU leveling bracket. The manual is very detailed in many languages and downloadable from the product page website.

Conclusion

This is a great case that allows for big powerful setups. Clean exterior, versatile interior, No fans included in this case either (like the 303), so you're going to need to get your own. This feature packed case is great and was a pleasure to work with once I installed the rubber case feet.

I give this case the following score

Aesthetics - 8.5/10
Features - 8/10
Costs - 7.5/10
Quality - 9/10

Total of 82.5%! At $189.99 on NewEgg, I think this case has some very ferocious competition. With a lot of cases coming out with tempered glass now, it's no longer a "standing out" feature. If this case was priced a bit lower, had case feet pre-installed it would be an easily recommendable case. This does not mean I do not recommend this case. In fact, I would recommend this case for people wanting something out of the norm because with almost all In Win products, they do not resemble "normal" cases on the inside, they're always innovating.

Thank you for reading my review! Stay tuned for my next review of the Be Quiet! Dark Base Pro 900 in silver!

Oh PS, I'll also be giving away this case after the holidays!

For beginning, we receive the case in this giant box!

The case's corners are protected and wrapped with a good quality fabric and there is a foam pad inside for shipping security.

Than we got the beast in all is glory!

Front

The front AIO have 4 usb 3.0 a audio jack, a inlet for the microphone and a power/reset switch.

There is also a slot for a 5''25 bay,and the coolest thing! RGB support! Nothing less on the INWIN logo in front!

Take note, this rgb panel only work with the RGB compatible motherboard!

The front panel have also a mesh panel for help cleaning.

The backpanel have combs to let the airflow go throught your fans/radiator installed in the front.

There is also 8 expenssion slot on the case and the space for a 120-140mm fan.

Now , one of the best thing about this case is the location of the cable management. We can see these cases were designed for an easier installation in/ out with a big hole in the case's frame. This way you can swap it for a waterblock or CPU cooler of your own choice as simple as saying 1-2-3 !

After, we can put up to 9 hard drive, mean: 5 x 3 HDD + 4 SSD . Please take note , the hard drive cages can be removed. (We dont have the choice for installing the radiator and we can't neither have the choice cause it needed to be setup.

Can use a radiator with this size:120- 240-280 and 360mm radiator!

The bottom have a filter which can be removed easy for cleaning up.

Unfortunately, there is no rubber on the feet.
Take note they have some little rubber pad to install on the case * I highly recommand it!

The case come with hotswap hdd plug-and-play!

The connector on this case are thoses one:
2x3.0 usb connector,1xRGB led conector and 1 HD AUDIO connector

1xpower switch, 1 reset and 1 HDD LED connector

There is the manual with goodies stuff. Manual, stand off motherboard and different types of screws

The good:

It can contain up to 2 360mm radiators, or one 420mm and one 360mm set in the front of the case. Good quality glass. You can also switch up for bigger video cards, even equipped with monster cpu support( Max : 37cm lenght and 19 cm deep!

The cons: No rubber feet and i expected thicker space for the cable management.

Note 9/10

Thats it for the review of the INWIN 509 E-ATX Rog Version!

I hope you all enjoyed this review!

A special thank to IN WIN which allowme to make this review+unboxing!
