One of the best quads at that time!!

Posted

Pros: Quad core, Overclocking capability, Bang for buck, durability

Cons: outdated, temps, TDP, max temps

It certainly seems like a long time since I let go of my 775 build. When I built it 4 years ago it was running like a dream, the temps were pretty decent and performance was great. You could usually hit between 3.2-3.6ghz depending on your motherboard, those P45 motherboards with this chip was a match made in heaven, obviously it required a SLACR (go) batch Q6600 and a low VID, but if you get lucky you could even hit 4ghz. Unfortunately because it is old and there have been many new releases, 1366 1156, 1155 and now 2011, it is quite hard to recommend it, however if you do own one already I would always say don't get rid of it, keep it as a backup rig, this was truly one of those...

Pros: Overclocking, Quad Core, Cheap, Lasts Long

Cons: Temps, power usage, outdated

Quite simply amazing. Bought this in 2007; still runs great, OC'ed to 3.3GHZ, used to do 3.4GHZ. Kicks ass in alot of games still. Chip just feels awesome. Was a Champion at time of release, cheap. Honestly, I am upgrading soon to a SB system most likely, because performance in some stuff is iffy...but I'll be sad to see this guy go. Probably use it a HTPC for a new TV I plan to buy. Since the release of the C2D & C2Q, AMD has never been able to match them. The Q6600 shown here, beats some of AMD's latest offerings...this many years later. Shows how well it was made.
