I got this cpu as a trade on OCN and it has been great. It has no problem running games at ultra settings (BF3 and SC2), runs cool on a basic cooler, and is pretty inexpensive for what you get.
If you are looking for a budget Intel 1155 quad core, this one is definitely a good choice.
Pros
Cons
true quad core, runs cool, does the job for less money
I bought this CPU almost a year ago, and i've no intention of getting rid of her anytime soon!
I first put this chip into a H61 board - which offered me only limited tweaking features - I was able to increase the CPU clock multiplier up to 31 or 3.1ghz - a modest increase of 200-300mhz on stock speeds..
That said, this processor is very well equipped. it's benchmarks @ stock put it just ahead over the previous intel generations i7 920 and i7 860 cpus
I have since upgraded my motherboard to a P67, which offered the full 35x multiplier and with that managed to get clock speeds of up to 3535 mhz (3.5ghz) , at that rating the CPU is capable of matching an i7 950 @ stock - pretty good going for the runt of the Sandybridge i5 litter
The HD 2000 graphics imbedded in the CPU is fair, not brilliant - with a little tweaking i was able to get a Gaming Rating on WEI of 6.0 - not bad for an integrated GPC
Definitely a great processor, there are better ones out there - and they are all far more expensive than this one - i guess it just depends how much your not willing to spend!!
I have been using this CPU for one year and all I can say is that it really does its job. Stock clocks vary because of Intel's power technologies and stuff. It can go from 1100MHz all the way up to 3100MHz.
On my GA-Z77M-D3H board I can overclock the cpu to 3300MHz by setting the multiplier to 33x100MHz = 3300MHz. Probably can get it a lil' higher by overclocking the BCLK too, but that might give me corruption.
This cpu is sufficient for gaming, surfing the web, managing documents, everything!
The ultimate budget Quad Core S1155 CPU is here and it will amaze you.
I used the I5 2400, got lucky on a 10% discount, quite right, an excellent performer! Has it been two years?
