A good CPU with a few small drawbacks.

review by tr4zz0id

The i5-3570k is an awesome CPU, with a few drawbacks, the main one being the heat that everyone is talking about. At 4.7GHz@1.385 Volts, I'm hitting the 90s occasionally with Prime95, and that's with a H100 in Push/Pull.

Apart from that, it's great to work with, super fast, and everything I was hoping for. If it had the same TIM/Solder as the i5-2500k Intel would have a winner on their hands (not to say this isn't one, but they would have a bigger one

)

Well done Intel!

ProsCons
Faster than SB (if only by 10%), dead easy to overclock, on z77 boards the RAM is so fun to play with.A little bit too hot for my taste, limits the OC ability.

Intel Core i5 3570K

review by snipekill2445

This is my first Intel processor. My initial impressions were very good. It overclocks very well, and runs stable. Great single core and multithreaded performance. I didn't like just hot hot it runs at all however.
After using this processor for a few weeks you get to feel how much performance this processor has on tap. At stock speeds it's a serious performer, and once overclocked you will be laughing.

Overclocking is very straight forward. Increase the multiplier until it becomes unstable then add vcore a notch. Run various stress testing applications and monitor temperatures to ensure it's stable and being cooled sufficiently. I managed to reach 4.5ghz on a Hyper 212 Evo cooler before I hit it's thermal limit. Once delidded I'm sure it would reach 4.7-4.8ghz just fine. Even switching to a custom watercooling loop I saw no improvement in thermals, leading me to believe the poor IHS thermal compound is a huge thermal bottleneck. Disappointing for a processor of this price range.

This CPU is excellent for both gaming and processor intense applications. It performs in any game with ease, from old school single threaded games to modern eight thread capable games like Battlefield.
When I was folding for Team Competition I got very good PPD numbers from this processor, although it just can't match high end graphics cards in this regard.

This processor being a Gen 3 supports some cool features, such as PCI-e 3.0 and memory overclocking ease.

The stock cooler, while adequate, is quite loud and overall not very good. This goes for all stock coolers however.

I like this Processor from Intel alot. It is very powerful, very good for overclocking and as long as you have a plan to deal with the thermals, it is a processor definitely worth considering.

ProsCons
Very fast, high thermal limit, Great overclocking results. Poor IHS contact makes it run very hot.

review by junkerde

This is a great CPU for gaming. Switched from AMD and could already tell the difference. My chip was a bit subpar in the overclocking area though, i needed about 1.32v for a 4.4ghz overclock, but couldn't get there without heat being an issue.

ProsCons
Great Performance in Gaming, Runs quickHeat

Awesome CPU

review by iwalkwithedead

My current setup on this processor is pretty good. 4.4GHz on 1.250v. This is in a Asus P8Z77-V Pro motherboard, cooled by a Corsair H100i with 2xCorsair 120mm Quiet Edition fans [push]/[pull] with 2xNZXT 200mm red led fans. Very nice and easy to overclock, this CPU hasn't let me down thus far.

PLEASE PM ME IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS!

It's fast like Jesus.

review by rainbowpee

It's fast. Not really much to say, got all the features like PCI-E 3.0, Quad-Core, Unlocked, 22 nm, faster memory clocks.

Dislike all you want, you know I just summarized every review about the i5 3570k.

ProsCons
It's fast.It's not fast.

Great power for the price.

review by t45457523

It's a great chip. Especially for $220. With the right cooling you can overclock fairly well. And if you're adventurous you can delid it and push it even further.
Supports usb 3.0. pcie 3.0. faster ram speeds. Runs on z77. Its a quad core so it works great for gaming and everyday use. And when overclocked can power through almost anything you throw at it.
I'd recommend it to any one unless they NEEDED the 4 threads that come with an i7.

ProsCons
ivy bridge, clock for clock higher than sandy bridge. All the bells and whistles that come along with an ivy bridge cpu. Heat is horrid when overclocking. Could only get it up to 4.5Ghz while on water (h100i).

i5-3570K overclock on $40 AIR CPU cooling solution (CM TX3 w/ dual 92mm fans)

review by malmental

Group 'B' 3570K chip. 4.4GHz @ 1.368V..
mad.gif

CM TX3 with dual 92mm fans, grabbed a matching second fan to go with the OEM TX3 cooler.
140mm top fan with 120mm back fan; AS5 thermal paste.

current temps: (idle)
case 23C
core package 29C / lowest core 23C.

current temps: (gaming max'd)
case 23-24C
core package 76C / highest core 76C

================

OK swapping of 3570K's is complete.

NEW:
Costa Rica
batch # 3237B882
serial # MC240246A2005
4.4GHz @ 1.256v (not verified stability yet, might go up or might go down)
idle voltage currently @ 0.920v

OLD:
Costa Rica
batch # 3228B572
serial # 3E221049A2015
4.4GHz @ 1.368v
idle voltage @ 1.060

=================

OK guys and gals....
this chip is a winner already and I haven't even lowered the voltages yet as I think I can.
just ran some Crysis 3 and max temp was 63C hottest core and 63C package.
the old chip was 77-84C max.

this is the exact same set-up with only a different chip; same paste same cooling solution.
so 4.4GHz @ 1.256V with the option to drop a tad lower..

so now thinking about it I wonder if my chip was somewhat defective or just that bad...?
the vdroop on this chip because of the lower voltage is more like what I'm use to seeing, more the norm.
hmm.

ProsCons
performance of four real solid cores without any gimmicks. on average runs on lower voltages than previous generation. documented heat / TIM issues.

Best Gaming CPU for the money

review by darkchaos205

This by far the best bang for your buck when looking to build a gaming Rig. If you put the money into an aftermarket heatsink and OC you will not need a new CPU for many many years. This thing is simply a beast

ProsCons
Great Speeds, never close to full load during gaming, and loves to be OC Can't think of any

About the Fastest thing on the planet for the price!

review by tex1954

This is a very nice and fast CPU... I see various reports on temperature, but mine runs cool at 4.5 GHz and rock solid doing BOINC tasks 24/7. Nothing but good things to say about this processor. I run it on an GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD4H and it's awesome!

ProsCons
FAST! Does 4.5GHz without a second glance back...Isn't Free!

Great CPU!

review by zer0d3gree

I bought this CPU for my first computer desktop and have not been disappointed. This is a great CPU, it handles every task with ease, I never have to worry about it not being able to perform. On average, i have a minimum of 10 tabs open on Chrome, and plenty of programs running in the background and it barely breaks a sweat. I recommend this to anyone who wants great performance and great reliability.?

My first Intel CPU and I'm glad I have it.

review by skye12977

Prior to this CPU I had an Athlon 640 and then an Phenom 955, and needless to say this was a much needed upgrade.
The ability to go up to about 1.4v (for everyday use) and near 90c at max load gives quite a lot of room to over-clock (you can even over-clock the CPU using the stock heat-sink).
Due to only having the h100i and two Corsair SP120's I'm able to do 4.7Ghz @ 1.36v, this is hopefully going to increase once I am able to afford a custom loop.
Sadly enough I've actually had multiple occurrences that I had to use the integrated graphics, and oh boy am I glad this CPU had it.

ProsCons
Voltage and Temperature Headroom, Integrated graphicsI bought mine used so can't say if it's worth the 200-225 it is normally was
