Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz LGA 1150 Quad-Core Desktop Processor

80% Positive Reviews

Pros: High performance, very stable

Cons: The TIM in the cpu that was really awful, very warm even without overclocking and heavy load

This cpu is really good for oc'ing and really stable too. Except the TIM. To overclock this cpu, you will need a very high peformance air cooler to oc it to 4.3GHZ. To overclock it to moar higher. You may need a custom loop water cooler. If not, your pc will just like an oven -- very hot.

Pros: Fast, Overclockable, and Stable.

Cons: A touch warm even without overclocking.

I have had this processor for over a year I have not had an issue with it. Since I added a Corsair H100i AIO cooler heat has not been a problem.

Pros: Fast with multi threading, it pretty much a 8 core processor wo the need for 220w

Cons: Need a good heatsink, it will get hot

I recommend the zalman 9700 with Mx-4 to keep this baby cool.
Spending 100 bucks on the H100 didnt make sense to me.
Buy it at microcenter, was 250 bucks not 330 online.
What ever u do, dont combo deal at micro center with the gigabyte z87-ud4h mobo.
That board is the black sheep for gigabyte from what i have seen.

Pros: Very fast, Good overclocker, Power efficient

Cons: Runs very hot, Expensive, Not every chip is a good overclocker, No VT-d support

The Intel Core i7 4770K is a great CPU. It has an efficient and yet very fast architecture with a lot a great features. With minimal heat, it produces an astonishing performance, on both single and multi-threaded performance.

The unfortunate problem is that Intel is using the same crappy TIM as on Ivy Bridge.
And the biggest joke is that heat is not problem, thermal conduction is. However, this is fixable by delidding your chip. But be aware that this will void your warranty and holds a risk of killing your expensive CPU!

An other downside is the fact that the 4770K does NOT support VT-d, which is very useful for virtualisation. The ironic this is that i7 4770 non-K DOES support VT-d (when paired with a proper motherboard and chipset). This is not a major problem, but I can see how enthusiast users who want to run a GPU passed trough linux in Windows, could be annoyed. The alternative is a SB-E/IB-E CPU, as every LGA2011 CPU supports VT-d.

I got lucky with my chip, as it runs 4.2 GHz at just 1.05V. At the time of writing, I only have a H60 from Corsair. Hopefully I'm able to complete my build this summer and see what I can reach when delid and under water.

Note that not every chip OCs well.

If I didn't have the TIM flaw, was a little cheaper and supported VT-d, the 4770K would have been granted 5 full stars.
However, these small details make me cut off a half star for a total of 4 stars.

Pros: Good overclock

Cons: None

This is a really good CPU and it is pretty fast. I would recommend anyone this. It was at 4.6GHz.
