Amazing Sound Quality But Poor Features

review by sightup

I bought the Kanto YU3 speakers on April 26, 2016. I have had ample enough time to test them for everything I do on a computer fully which includes music, movies, and gaming. These speakers are hands down the best bang for the buck when it comes to sound quality. I have had several too throughout the years to compare.

These speakers have more features than anything I have ever seen in the past. However, they should have done a little more in developing the features to the maximum because the features are what makes these speakers unusable! Because of the extra features that these speakers have, I am now actively seeking a new set of speakers to use with computer.

In no particular order I will now go into this list.

You cannot turn off the Bluetooth. That isn?t a huge issue, but I have been pranked once or twice, or several times, by roommates connecting and being awoken in the middle of the night due to the scream from a zombie in Left for Dead.

The auto off senor is 100% trash. I often fall asleep watching Archer, ATHF, Home Movies, Ed, Edd & Eddy, Johnny Bravo, etc. At very low levels, but low enough to hear clearly five feet away from the source, the auto off timer engages and every 10 minutes I have to turn the speakers back on. I remind you, this is while VLC is playing a video with sound.

Another problem, this is when the auto timer has put the speakers into the standby mode or essentially off state. Say I am in TS and no one in the channel has said anything. They will have powered off and someone comes into the channel. ?User has entered your channel? sound effects play when they do. The speakers auto detect doesn?t turn the speakers back on. Any sounds, what so ever, should turn the speakers back on but it doesn?t. In addition, Windows sounds also do not cause the speakers to turn back on.

Next, when sounds from the computer actually do get recognized by the speakers, there is a 10 second lag before the speakers actually start playing the sound. Assuming a call out was made or someone is trying to talk to you, you completely miss it and you may get to hear the tail end of the conversation and you are forced to completely ignore the previous sentence or ask them, ?Can you repeat that? My speakers turned off.?

These are very simple examples just to get my examples and points across. I have though had the speakers turn off during mid fire fight in Battlefield 4 and other games. They honestly act as if beta testers consisted of a very specific kind of individuals and their testing didn?t encompass everything that they might have been used for.

Once again, when the speakers are actually on, they sound great. It?s clean, crisp and clear. They are absolutely perfect for gaming assuming you have the desktop space. They did a great job! It is just unbelievable that a company that excelled in this and wanted to add additional features wouldn?t have included a little extra time and effort to see the additional features through. These features can be solved by simply including and making it easy for the end user, the consumer, the ability to turn off some of these extra features such as the auto off timer and Bluetooth functionality.

Believe it or not, the speakers have performed 100% according to specs. I got a hold of a Kanto rep on Reddit and he said that there was nothing to be done even though there are these issues. The conversation between us was just that, a conversation, and they were very professional. And maybe these aren?t issues at all. For me, the gamer, they are though which makes these speakers a hassle and not worth using. As such, I absolutely cannot recommend these speakers to another gamer.
