I thought I knew quality... Klipsch R6i review

review by nfsdude0125

Hi all, time for another write up!

As some of you may already know if you follow my rants, er, I mean, reviews, you'll know I'm quite blunt. I usually enjoy picking something apart if I don't like it.

Well, I'm s**t out of luck this round. In my ears, are the Klipsch R6i in-ear reference monitors. These are, very close, to my perfect pair of earphones, and that's saying something if you read my review on the Sennheiser CX3.00 buds, which are also of outstanding quality, but did lack the inclusion of a 3-button mic combo mid-line, which the R6i have.

Upon visiting the webpage for these earphones (http://www.klipsch.com.au/R6i, please use as reference for pictures as my gear is at home), you'll want to visit the specs page (Like the good 'lil audiophile that you are) and you'll see the following:

FREQUENCY RESPONSE: 10Hz-19kHz
SENSITIVITY: 110dB
IMPEDANCE: 18 ohms
DRIVER DESIGN: Dual Magnet, Dynamic Moving Coil Micro Speaker
NOISE ISOLATION: -22
INPUT CONNECTIONS: 3.5 mm
DRIVER DIAMETER: 6.5 mm

Breaking that down, let's discuss. The frequency range on these buds is fairly standard for buds with a similar price, but out of curiosity, I broke out some of my favourite EDM tracks with good bass lines to test drive them. The tracks were:

deadmau5 ft. Chris James - The Veldt (a very good song with an even better backstory)
Flosstradamus ft. Casino - Moshpit
Gucci Mane ft. Yo Gotti - Trapaholic
Aronchupa - Heaven On Earth

Aside from having several eargasms, it was a very enjoyable listening experience. The Veldt with Chris' marvelous vocals, proved to be so good, that I ended up with goosebumps. No part of the song was missed and the bass was prominent, but not overwhelming.

Flosstradamus are a pair of trap artists who are fantastic at production, which is why I chose Moshpit. The bass was heavy, but fun to listen to, and the R6i's kept the track from drowning in LFE.

Trapaholic by Gucci is a very, and I mean VERY, bass heavy track. Which shocked me even further when I experiencing extreme lows (I could swear my eardrums were vibrating) and vocal's STILL on the forefront of the soundstage. The 50 years of experience following Klipsch should leave no one mistaken.

And finally, Heaven On Earth. I really enjoyed this track as it is an EDM track with decent bass and good hits. As usual, the R6i's proved to me, they are no push-around pair of buds. They're here to play.

Noting that, I cranked it right up to full for a short period. No distortion was to be heard, the sound reproduction was very impressive.

I also broke out some songs with instruments, first one is a song from the third Fast and The Furious movie, Tokyo Drift. A personal favourite:
Brian Tyler and Slash - Mustang Nismo
Pendulum - The Tempest (yes, because acoustic guitar)
Elena Siegman - 115

The song based on the RB26DETT powered, '67 Mustang, proved no challenge for the R6i's. Belting out Slash's guitar rifts with ease (and me airguitaring at the same time) was insanely enjoyable, and a song that would see a bit of time at full volume.

This song is an impressive one, and a very good one at that. Pendulum is best known for the Drum 'n' Bass they produce, but people seemingly forget that they are actually a band! The sync between drums, guitar, the actual D'n'B they included and the general production is so good, you notice more about the song than the headphones, because reproduction misses nothing.

Everyone should know this. Or at least, would know it as the end song for Call of Duty's: Black Ops Zombies song. This is the best iteration of this exact song that I've heard yet. The R6i's have no issues representing each instrument with outstanding clarity and distinction. The drum solo's demostrated the 'buds ability to produce heavy, but subtle bass which compliments the song ten-fold. Everything from the kick drum to the vocals were easily indentified.

Overall, these are insanely impressive headphones. Buy them if you're pedantic about quality, don't if you can justify the cost of Beats.

ProsCons
The build, the sound, the experienceThey're so comfy, you forget they're in your ears, can be a bad thing. Sort of.
