Logitech G533 Review

review by jedson3614

Logitech's primary focus is innovation for peripherals and devices since 1981. Their mission is to help people enjoy a better experience in a digital world. They are not new to gamers, and we will be focusing on that aspect of design in this review. They have an entirely separate department for their G gaming line, and its goal is to improve your skill no matter your experience.

I will be looking at the G533 Wireless headset which features custom drivers and a DTS experience. Logitech has set out to prove to gamers that wireless can be perfect for gaming with zero delays. Let's see if wireless can deliver the performance we expect and if this headset can provide the advanced audio as advertised.

Why Choose the G533?

The G533 sports Advanced audio performance using Pro-G Audio drivers and DTS Headphone X technology. They are capable of 7.1 Surround Sound and are meant to deliver an audiophile experience. Using the Logitech Gaming Software all ties in an easy configuration for the device and offers wireless technology.

Shipping

The box is simple and clean for the G533. This headset has a simple design but in the right way. There is no flashy RGB or loud advertising. I like the simple black/blue logo scheme.

The back of the box goes into more detail over the 7.1 audio, long 15-hour battery, and control the headset provides.

The accessories included are as follows:
  • G533 headset
  • Product Manual & Warranty information
  • Wireless adapter
  • USB cable for charging
Design

The G533 is comfortable to wear and supports patent -pending Pro-G audio drivers; It offers positional audio using the 7.1 surround sound and DTS technology. The design of the headset is meant to be durable and lightweight. It's over the ear design provides comfort and no strain on your neck for long hours, and the earcups offer comfortable hybrid mesh. The mesh is breathable and can be removed for cleaning. Ideally, this headset is the perfect candidate for eSports and gamers looking for immersive audio and pinpoint accuracy.

I love the simple overall design of the G533. There is no flashy RGB and a clean look. The G logo is present on the outside of each earcup and top of the headband. The hybrid mesh is located in each earcup and under the band for maximum comfort. The G533 should have no problem fitting in with your current setup with its pure black/gray color tones. The headband also adjusts easily to fit a variety of different head shapes.

The flex test was also performed, and I found the band flexibility to be perfect for any travel or storage concerns. The earcups and band are held together by separating screws. This ensures proper structure for the band and swivels for each earcup.

The DTS positional audio accurately replicated a 7.1 speaker placement. The G533 can recreate game environments using special effects. The volume levels offer seven audio adjustment channels, and you can amplify sounds from any direction. The Logitech G software offers a lot of control over your headset with built-in effects and configuration profiles.

You can see the drivers through the removable earpads above. I did a test and played Heroes of the storm for two hours and didn't feel any pain in my head, neck or ears. It is safe to say that the mesh felt consistently comfortable through my test. I also like that they can be removed for easy cleaning. This is especially handy for people that may sweat for whatever reason.

The wireless adapter isn't tiny compared to other wireless adapters but does sport the nice Logitech Gaming G logo. The G533 offers advanced lossless digital audio using wireless technology. The adapter can work up to 15 meters away and is designed to maintain a secure connection even in a noisy EMI environment. I had zero connection problems, and no interference from any devices like wireless routers or any other wireless ranged devices.

The G533 offers a superior batter and finely tuned controls. The included USB cable can be used to recharge your device and you can continue to use it while it charges. The battery lasts 15 hours on a single charge. The Logitech software provides easy access to battery information, so you don't run out of juice during an important game. The USB charging port is located directly on the left earcup.

The custom control on your headset provides natural control over everything with the G533. It offers an accessible volume control wheel with a quick mute control. The mute button is right next to power with the G logo. The power button is an easy switch that can turn your device off to save battery. There is no wait time to power the device on or off making this really easy to conserve power and pick up right where you left off. These on the fly adjustments make it simple to control your headset quickly.

The microphone is also readily available with simply pulling it down from its up position. It offers big performance with a micro pop filter. The G533 mic can reduce popping and breathing noises to help ensure clear communication. You can expect the same performance and benefits of a traditional foam ball mic but in a minimal integrated design.

Testing

Testing audio is never easy and can require expensive equipment. Headsets can be kind of hard to test because they are parts that require one to interact with personally. There also isn't a ton of software to test these devices against or an easy way to capture surround sound. However, the Logitech line of peripherals offer software that I will go over, and I will talk about my experience with the device.

My test bench is as follows:
  • ViewSonic XG2703-GS Monitor
  • Motherboard- ASRock z270m Extreme 4
  • CPU: Intel Core I7 6700K
  • Network Card- Netgear AC 1200 USB
  • Cooler- Cooler Master Master Liquid 240
  • Memory- Avexir DDR4 3000 MHz
  • Video Card: Nvidia GTX 1060
  • Storage- MyDigital SSD BPX 480 GB NVMe x2 RAID 0 Drives (Boot)
  • Power Supply- Thermaltake PRO RGB 850W
  • OS: Windows 10 x64 Pro
  • Mouse- Logitech G403 Wireless Gaming Mouse
  • Keyboard- Coolermaster MasterLite Keys Keyboard
  • Headphones- Logitech G533 7.1 Surround Sound Wireless Headset

The XG2703-GS is the best monitor I have ever used! It has every feature you would want in a monitor like IPS, Gsync, high refresh rate, and excellent quality. This doesn't come without a high price tag. If you want the best, you're going to pay for it. My favorite feature is the overclocking mode with 175Hz refresh rate. The monitor is really easy to set up and has excellent built-in profiles for near perfect calibration.

Software

The Logitech Gaming Software provides all the customization options you need for your Logitech devices. With this software, you can control RGB lighting, programmable buttons, and even sync all your colors together. For the headset, you get additional features like EQ & DTS settings. This headset offers no RGB lighting so that option is missing for this headset.

On the main screen for the G533, you get a nice large high-resolution photo of the product as well as battery information for the remaining hours left till it needs to be recharged.

The profile section allows a user to configure your G-Keys and set custom commands to individual peripherals. This is tremendously useful if you have a full line of Logitech products because they can all work together nicely through the software.

On the G533 there is only one button that can be controlled which is the G key. This by default is set to Mute/Unmute the headset. If you want you can drag custom game macros to this button, but I just found it more useful to leave it at its default setting.

The battery tab gives more detail about battery usage with visualization. The total power consumed from the G533 is 66mA and can offer a max charge of 16 Hours. You can see percentage and hours remaining here as well.

The EQ tab allows for fine tuning your Equalizer settings. This too offers custom profiles for individual games or advanced tuning to find what works for you. I like that they offer built-in profiles like FPS and MOBA style presets. You can also set additional options like Enable per profile EQ and Automatic microphone noise removal. The noise removal will help with background noise if that is an issue. You can save a specific profile to the G533 for default use which stays persistent until you change it.

My favorite part of the G533 besides being wireless is its superior sound quality that comes from the DTS 7.1 Surround Sound. This can be configured through the Logitech software and offers the ability to fine-tune your experience. You can set your stereo mode or disable the 7.1 if you prefer. There are live demos to test the audio, and you can also enable per profile settings. In my testing, some games didn't do well when capturing audio with the DTS filter enabled, so that would be an example of why you would want to disable it.

The sound, in my opinion, is fantastic! It can be a little heavy on the bass, but overall the directional sound is persistent in every game I tried. I tested different game types like FPS, MOBA, and some videos. This helped me get an overall understanding how the G533 handles in various situations.

I tested the microphone using standard tests like Skype, and Ventrilo. Using the mic did provide clean and crisp voice and speech. Voice chat during gameplay was fun when trying to harass my friends. The quality is exceptional and offered no muffled noise. The noise canceling works as advertised.

Conclusion

The G533 offers great audio with a comfortable design. If it weren't labeled as wireless, you wouldn't know the difference between this headset and a wired on doing a blind sound test. There is no lag, and the only indicator would be when you ran out of battery. The ability to continue using the headset when charging is also a must and greatly appreciated.

I personally love the design of this headset, but it could offer a future variation with RGB. This doesn't take away from the performance of the product, but the thing about RGB is that it can be turned off if you prefer. I think if the G logo on each ear cup offered RGB it wouldn't only add more value of aesthetics to the G533. Pretty much everything gaming branded offers RGB lighting now, and this will be the continuing trend for some time.

The G533 has fantastic software, design, audio, and comfort. I highly recommend if you've thought wireless headphones were not as good as wired, I suggest you take the G533 challenge. This headset does have a high price tag but does offer the performance and comfort to back it up. I highly recommend the G533 and you can buy it now for $149.99 from the Logitech store.

Logitech G533 Review

These bad boys get so cheap around black friday... it's a shame I didn't hop on it sooner. Either way, my current headset is doing just fine with me.
