Logitech K800 Keyboard - Quick Review

review by thingamajig

Well considering there isn't a review for this keyboard, i may as well write one.

Had this thing for a number of months now and It's beginning to show it's age. The area's my hands frequently rest are beginning to gloss over, debris is falling behind the keys....ya'know, the typical signs you'd expect really.

This leads me on to the major con of this keyboard, so i may as well start with the cons first;

Cons:

Considering the price you pay, you'd think Logitech would have designed this keyboard for quick, easy dismantling to clean under the key's, am i right? Nope.

In fact, if you try in any way to remove the keys, i can personally guarantee that you'll break them unless you're EXTREMELY careful. The key mechanism is quite fragile and exposed underneath there (with this in mind, preventative cleaning is MORE important!). Pop a key, and you'll very easily break it and make it unusable. Trust me, i tried, and although i was successful, there was one "key" casualty.

While i had all the key's off, i also noticed some other electrical wizardry is a bit exposed. So you really don't want to be tipping any fluids on this thing anytime soon.

Very disappointing for the price. Being a backlit keyboard, it doesn't take long for the dirt and debris behind the keys to show quite clearly. No amount of canned air or strong lungs is going to dislodge it either. Couple this with the frailty of the keys.....bah, Logitech, Y U NO THINK? (Although if it's any consolation, the keys do feel great and press nicely, and are very quiet to type on)

And speaking of the Back-light - it's lovely, I prefer it on the brightest setting. There is one problem with this though: it doesn't remember what brightness you set it on when you turn it off or when it goes into "standby" when not in use. So you've got to keep manually adjusting the brightness to full if that's what you want it on. Minor issue i know, but worth mentioning. There's also nothing in the Setpoint software to remedy this.

The keyboard is advertised to adjust it's brightness level based on the surrounding light, and although this is true in most part, it NEVER adjusts to full brightness, regardless of how dark it is. I guess it's programmed to do this to conserve battery - not so good if like me, you want it on full all the time.

PRO'S:

Aside from the faults though there really is nothing else wrong with this keyboard. It's a fantastic looking bit of kit and suits the white/black theme I've got going on perfectly. It's wireless capabilities are brilliant - I've even been able to walk around my own house, keyboard in hand, skipping songs at the touch of a button.

Battery life is great too. The keyboard ships (At least mine did) with 2000 mAH batteries to which i was pleasantly surprised. Charging is via a USB cable provided, which is basically a USB to Micro-B USB No proprietary junk on this, which is a relief.

I was expecting Logitech (like so many other companies) to cheap out on the batteries too (2x AA batteries) but they didn't - again, good, considering the pricetag. You can also expect the batteries to last you at least 3 days with frequent use, but this largely depends on the backlight brightness level. I run with it full brightness as often as i can be bothered to set it, and i usually find the keyboard last's me several days on a full charge.

So, overall, great keyboard. Price is disappointing considering the faults though, but overall i love it and you'll be hard pressed to find a white/black combo with this kind of quality and style.

BTW, if you think the purchase price is higher then usual, that's because i live in the UK, and i converted from GBP to USD.

ProsCons
Sleek, elegant, wireless, long battery life, great rangeproper maintenance/cleaning is near impossible. Backlight needs adjustment

Great potential let down by quality issues

review by sundaygamer

This is one of the most expensive mistakes I've made around my PC build.

And here is why...

First, I ordered this keyboard online, when it arrived, I saw quality issues straight away, the glued back panel had too big gaps (purchased from official Logitech retailer)- I could fit business card there... I ordered another one... and another one... Well, the third example of this keyboard was OK, relatively OK, I still wasn't impressed with the built quality after my Logitech Edge Dinovo keyboard, but since there wasn't anything alike (illuminated wireless) on the market, I still left it (worst mistake I could make)

Obviously, after few months, the glued back panel gap raised and was about the same as on the examples I sent back initially, but ok, left it as it is, not a first world problem, even though there were sharp edges around, I don't touch them every day but stil, a bit annoyed by the fact.

Cleaning issues- if you ever had anything under the keys, you have two options- either live with that the that key is stiff now or broke it down when trying to remove it. It's impossible to clean this keyboard, I'm very accurate user but somehow something happened to get under right shift key, it wasn't usable properly anymore, tried to remove it by instruction and it broke down, when tried to find a replacement key- no luck, couldn't find a retailer selling that particular key, so disappointed about that cos for the price, unmaintainable keyboard is unacceptable for me.

Anything good? Yes, obviously, typing experience is great, keys are soft and because of low profile, they're easy to use. Also, keys are very quiet, I liked that keyboard, wish it had Edge Dinovo built quality, purchased it mostly because of backlight but... after around a year, I can throw it out now

Little about backlight- it have two options- auto or manual, I used it on auto, found it quite good and didn't feel a need for a manual options. Also, auto turn on is a big deal, sensor is somewhere under keys, and it works absolutely perfect, just put your hands down on keyboard and it is lit up already! Or you can just wave over and it will turn on too. Never ever had need for brighter backlight or anything else, in that part, this keyboard is great.

Keys. As mentioned before, they are low profile, very soft touch feel and quiet too, great for typing and if in office, your colleagues won't be annoyed. Key location- there is dedicated sound level buttons and calculator button, but other are mixed with Fn buttons, so you can chose in software, which would you like to use as primary- Fn or F1-F12 buttons. I'd prefer some dedicated buttons for music player and maybe for keyboard brightness, other Fn keys are useless for me, like, why would you ever want to check battery level by dedicated key on the keyboard? Or, is there anyone who actually switches off PC from the keyboard?

Short conclusion- if it was maintainable keyboard, it could earn at lest 4*, but since it's like one time paper plate, it can't earn more than 2 stars! Very disappointed as Edge Dinovo was a great product and I really looked forward to replace it with this, but unfortunately, I wasn't satisfied with this item since day 1!

ProsCons
Comfy, quiet and proper for fast typing keyboardQuality is out of any competition

Awesome Keyboard for writing and casual gaming

review by khalaharee

Short: The best keyboard I ever owned!

Especially the great keystroke both for writing and casual gaming got me to this keyboard, since i bought it for writing my thesis. I can't evaluate pro-gaming needs since I don't consider myself a pro-gamer.
The connection is super fast and easy to set up with Logitech's Unifying Adapter. The multimedia keys come in really handy, especially the sound and calculator buttons.
The backlight brightness is adjustable and automatically turns on when you hover your hands above it. The battery lasts about a month during regular use.
Qualitywise the keyboard makes a really good impression. Haven't had any problems in 1 year.

The only thing "missing" would be an RGB backlight.

ProsCons
Great keystroke, multimedia keys, wireless, backlight, sleek designNo RGB
