MSI R9 290X LIGHTNING Graphics Card

AMD sent two of these to me for a sponsored build and they are awesome! Very beefy and one of those cards that make you feel like you are actually getting what you paid for! The packing was very nice and it came with the usual accessories like Molex to PCIe, crossfire bridge, software, etc... One of the best things about this card is its power system with plenty of phases, VRMs and power connections, it has 2x 8 Pin PCIe power connectors and one 6Pin PCIe Power connector. Its air cooler is exceptional and looks very nice, has three fans, a copper split dual chamber liquid filled heat chambers and covers all the VRMs and VRAM. It produces solid FPS on anything I throw at it and it maintains temps below 60c consistently regardless of the ambient temperature. It is also very quiet considering all the fans. It also has a bios switch that is designed to tailor to people who like to LN2 Bench! The Lightning lit up logo that changes color according to the load is a nice touch as well!

Incredible overclocking graphics card by MSI, HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

*fixed the clock speeds in the review title*

This amazing card by MSI offers the best of all three worlds...

- THERMALS / NOISE

- OC SPEED'S

- LOOKS

http://www.msi.com/product/vga/R9-290X-LIGHTNING.html

I have owned a couple of graphics cards in my life, but nothing can match the raw power of this one. A couple things i'm going to point out though...

First of all, this card is REALLY heavy. I doubt it will break anything, just triple check that you are inserting it properly, as it would be a shame to break something. This is because of the highly efficient triple fan and large heat sink design, guaranteed to keep it cool under EVERY load. I have yet to reach 80 C?, in fact, even when folding 24/7, the card wont even reach 75 C?.

Secondly, the color scheme won't match every build, but the only yellow parts are the center fan and accents. Personally, the performance is more important than the (actually really beautiful) yellow details. Don't let the yellow determine your purchase.

Lastly, this card is AMD FreeSync compliant, which i feel is going to be a great technology and investment for the next generation of computers and monitors. Just thought id add that here.

ProsCons
AMAZING overclock ability (you can easily push 1150MHz core and 1350MHz memory under air), Practically silent when under 90%, Great thermals, Color!!Heavy? That's pretty much it. Also the yellow and black isn't for everybody.

3 things like chife keef, i dont like,
1 i dont like how acx coolers look or function(using weak fans to quietly scatter fan throughout case vs one powerful 5000rpm blower to cool card and exhaust in 1 direction)
2 i dont like the color scheme (just something about yellow and black bugs me)
3 ati (or should i say amd, and after having more than 10 non overcooked amd cpu's just up and die vs my not 1 intel ever dieing, i want to avoid them almost as bad as samsung)
