Pros: Superb temps for air

Cons: Large and heavy

Simply put, it's the best air cpu cooling solution I've found, but it is heavy and large. Be sure to have either low profile ram or make sure you have clearance, additionally it would be advisable to check you have clearance for your preferred PCIe slots. I've had mine installed through a EU-Asia flight and the weight of the cooler unscrewed all but one motherboard screws (though everything still works) - I don't recommend this to be installed for travel. Idle temps at around +8-18c ambient. (32-40c) Under load temps hit +38c pretty quick (60c). (Haven't done heat tests in a while to remember over time load temps). Overall, I've had this for more than a year, been loving it since I...

Nice and quiet CPU cooler for 2011 socket boards

Pros: Quiet, good cooling performance under full CPU load

Cons: Large, needs a big chassis and low profile DIMMs

At first I wanted to go with water cooling and considered the Corsair H100. This seemed to be the best option in terms of cooling performance and low noise. However, reading lots of reviews and user opinions on the subject, I came to understand that water cooling may not necessarily be better than air cooling, nor quieter. Even water coolers use fans. I read a lot of good reviews on the Noctua NH-D14 SE2011, so I decided to give it a try. The NH-D14 is HUGE !!! You need a big chassis to get it in. I have a Corsair 500R. Next thing to watch out is memory clearance. I have an Asus Sabertooth X79 board fully equipped with 8x4GB Kingston memory. 4 of the DIMMs sit right under the Noctua...
