Bought a pair of these off Craigslist a little while ago. They sound absolutely excellent for the price paid, although I knew that beforehand (I used to have the 10" models years ago). They definitely handle their rated power just fine (60w RMS), if not a little bit more. The bass response is actually very excellent. You really don't "need" a subwoofer with these speakers, although it is nice to have.
The midrange is fine honestly. I have nothing to say good or bad about it.
The treble leaves a lot to be desired. It's a very "peaky" tweeter, you can tell what frequencies that it really likes. The tweeter is also extremely fragile. We blew one of the tweeters in the first week of owning them, and now have to order a replacement for $38 from Pioneer parts department.
Honestly, I would have paid the "new" price of $120 per speaker ($240 for the pair) happily back when these were new. Now, I'm honestly happy with the $50 off Craigslist, because there's quite a bit better out there for the price. If you find these used in good shape, they're solid speakers. I definitely wouldn't pay over about $75 for the pair though.
