Prolimatech Megahalems Rev B. Intel CPU Heatsink (LGA 775 / 1156 / 1366) (AM2** / AM2+** / AM3**)

Description:
The revised Prolimatech Megahalems Rev B. Intel CPU Heatsink now comes LGA 1156 ready and contains 2 sets of wire fan clips for optimal performance out of the box. Due to the originals very high praise from multiple review sites as well as winning the Editor's Choice Gold Award from [H]ard|OCP Enthusiast this cooler is sure to please. When it comes to air cooling this cooler cannot be beat! This heatsink has been carefully engineered for low to medium speed 120 mm fans producing around 57 CFM - fans in this range are quiet at under 26 dBA - but this heatsink still cools better than the competition! Six heatpipes pull heat up to the fins and away from the CPU. The heatsink ships ready to mount to either Socket LGA 775 or the latest Socket LGA 1366 and LGA 1156!

**Sockets AM2, AM2+ and AM3 require optional retention hardware
The tower type coolers have been the mainstream in the CPU cooling market for quite some time now, but upon closer inspection you start to notice that designs and engineering can only go so far as they slowly come to a bottleneck. After a while they all start to look the same with performance not worth popping the champaign. This is where Prolimatech comes in. We are here to challenge all possible odds and stray away from the norm. With that focus in mind comes the new Megahalems, tower CPU cooler. Never before seen are the new lows in temperature produced by an intelligent design of low air flow resistance with unmatched performance to boost; perfect for the true overclockers in all of us

**PLEASE MEASURE YOUR CASE TO INSURE THIS HEATSINK WILL FIT BEFORE PURCHASING!! WILL NOT ACCEPT RETURNS UNLESS ITEM IS DEFECTIVE!**

Big beast that keeps things cool!

review by 5nak3

Just a short review on this one more so to give an idea of performance.

Firstly I'll get the cons out the way. It is big and heavy. I doubt it will do damage to the mobo, but it was a surprise to me how heavy it was.

As for the size, it is about 12-13cm tall so make sure you have enough space in your case before buying.

Now with that out the way let's get to the good stuff
smile.gif

Ambient Temp - 20 degrees
CPU idle Temp - 25-26 degrees
CPU load Temp (Prime 95) - 52 degrees
CPU highest Temp that I've recorded since purchase - 55 degrees

In my opinion these temps are spot on for my i7 running at 4.5Ghz with 1.214v.
Being an air cooler it is silent, and the cooler itself also features some fan mounting brackets which can be used to help pull/push the air through the cooling fins.

When I was purchasing, I was deciding between the H80 water loop from Corsair or a large heatsink. The prices were the same, and since I already have a case with several fans in, I didn't want a radiator as well so I settled on the large heatsink.

So far I've had no problems with it, and am very happy with my purchase.

ProsCons
Quality feel to the component, does what it was made to do...very well!Big and heavy...but you can tell just by looking at it!

Megahalems with AMD bracket

review by flying toilet

I've owned several aftermarket tower style coolers, and this is the best of the bunch. Running an overclocked Thuban it used to load at 50 degrees Celsius on a Cooler Master Hyper N520, but with the mega it loads at 38. I ordered the AM2+/AM3 mount from Frozencpu.com, they had the best price at the time. It's a great cooler for Intel but bare in mind the additional cost if you're on AM3, which honestly for the price you might be able to find something comparable for the same, if not cheaper.

ProsCons
Huge, cool, stylishHuge, no fans included, AMD bracket not included

Excellent Cooler!

review by socom

I purchased this CPU cooler when my old one wasn't performing well with my overclocks. Needless to say this solved my problems. The cooler was fairly easy to install, I didn't run into any issues. This cooler holds my cpu at around 32*C idle and 55 load, which is really great for only having one 1000 rpm 120x38mm fan attached. This cooler did not come with clips for 38mm fans so I attached mine with zip ties, which works just fine. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for one of the best performing and best looking cooler on the market.

ProsCons
Great cooling, looks good, easy to installBig, no 38mm fan clips

Not the biggest player at its pricepoint.

review by xinoxide

After excitedly replacing my 212+ with this beastly piece of heatsink, I was easily able o push the limits of my 2500K much further.

However, when pushing the limits of air cooling voltages it falls a little flat.

Even with low ambients and a goot seat atop my 2500k's IHS, pushing the air cooling voltage limits isnt quite happening.

Pushing 95C in a 22C ambient with 1.48v under IBT keeps me from pushing her all the way into voltage territory where I might be able to stabilize another step in multiplier.

Still for being able to cool the 2500K at 5ghz, it deserves it props.

ProsCons
Great appeal, not the biggest space hog. Good cooling ability. At its retail price, it doesn't quite have the cooling capacity I had expected. options...optional, 38mm clips are seperate.

Great Air Cooler! Right up their with a 212+ EVO or better.

review by pimpskyline

I bought this over a year ago for my Q6600, so i could go from 3.2Ghz to 4Ghz. Well the Q6600 needed 1.6V+ for the 4Ghz so i settled for 3.8Ghz. This monster did a great job of keeping it cool. I had a Zalman cooler for it originally. It got up to 77-82C under load at just 3.2Ghz on my Q6600. With this beast it barely went over 50C under load with a Ambient of 30C.

Now i have a Q9550 E0 at 4.3Ghz and 1.43V and she stays under 60C with this Cooler. Can't be happier. Also, i got a buddy with a QX9650 and this Cooler, he is rocking 4.6Ghz and 1.5V and only hitting 66C.

Bottom line, if you don't want to pay $75-$130 for a Noctua, only to gain 1-4C drops in temp or a WC Setup, then get this, you won't be disappointed

ProsCons
Huge Air Flow, Lots of Fan Options, Cools very nicely, Good Bang-Buck RatioIt's Big, Not really a Con, but it could be with a Mid Tower or smaller case.
