Fast, Reliable, Affordable

review by terrere

I purchased a Samsung 840 EVO 250GB to put into my newly purchased laptop to replace the 1TB 5400 RPM drive that came installed. The 1 TB drive was supposed to be a data drive in an Ultra-Bay, but getting the Ultra-Bay adapters can be a pain, so I decided to put out the money and get a bigger SSD. I debated going all the way up for the 1TB SSD, but the 750GB should suffice for the uses I will put it through.

Cloning from the 250GB was simple with the Samsung Data Migration software that I already had installed and the Samsung Magician software allowed me to verify that the OS was configured correctly. One thing that I didn't expect was for the boot time to actually reduce by 2-3 seconds. I was ~10 second boot times with the 250 whereas I am now at ~7-8 with the 750GB. The speed is incredible, and the price is unbeatable. For around 400 USD, you can have a 750GB Samsung 840 EVO, which actually rivals the 840 Pro SSD in most categories. This is definitely a consumer focused SSD with a good balance between reliability, performance, and price.

ProsCons
Large SSD, Great Price, Blazing Fast, Great SoftwareNone to date
