120hz :), great monitor for the price

review by sepheroth003

Backstory
I went to this from a 27" Samsung 1080p matte screen. I was really worried about losing the screen real estate. In the end, I do miss the bigger screen but the picture quaility (PQ), 120hz, and pixel density is definately worth the downgrade in size. So much to the fact I may never buy a 27" 1080p monitor again, even if it is 120hz.

Pros
120hz for First Person Shooting (FPS) gaming is truly amazing. The monitor is worth every penny if you play these games. The bezels on this monitor are increadibly thin, I think they would work great in an eyefinity setup. The colors on this monitor are quiet spectacular. Much better than my 27" Samsung matte screen, and I would say on par, probably not better than the Asus VG276HE. The touchscreen controls are much better than they were on my 27". They really do work very well, just note they are made to be touched with the side of your finger from the bottom of the monitor. The last pro is the 3d, it's Tridef3d which is made for AMD cards.

Cons
The stand is fairly crappy. It's pretty light weight with no height adjustment. Now I have to build or buy something to put this monitor on because its too low for my viewing angle/distance/preference. Only working with the 3d for about 30minutes, it wasn't very user friendly at all. The Tridef software only found 4 or 5 of my 50+ games installed. Even the ones it found, it didnt seem to work real well. The crosstalk was terrible. Hopefully I can figure out how to minimize this, and I will update this review accordingly. The glasses are fairly cheap feeling but they work. The only real problem with the glasses are they use a big watch type battery and is not rechargeable.

Conclusion
No game is ever worse with a 120hz, and the ones that are better (FPS) are amazingly better. My only problem is I feel my 6970 is no longer strong enough to run games at high/max settings and keep 120fps for the amazing smoothness. This is a minor thing because A: I could turn settings down and get plenty of fps, B: I could just buy more GPU power, C: 120hz monitor is still better even without 120fps if for no other reason than you never see tearing.

ProsCons
120hz, increadibly small bezels, great picture quality, glossy screen3d meh
