Amazing Drive for RAID 0
Pros: Single Platter, 500GB Platter, Runs Cool
Cons: None as of right now
The Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB Single Platter HDD's have been the best hard drives I have ever owned. They run incredibly cool and are basically silent if you have standard 1800RPM fans in your case. I had for of these HDD's setup in RAID0, short-stroked down from 2TB to 200GB and they performed flawlessly for me for close to a year and a half, Just recently I had an issue with two of them going out on me at the same time but that is expected when you are running them in a RAID setup. I bought all four of them at the same time and the other two I have in a RAID0 right now and they are still running strong for me.
Performance
When I had these HDD's short-stroked they reached speeds of 500MB/s Read and 500MB/s Write, at that time that was just as good as SSD performance if you don't count the access time. Down below is a benchmark of the hard drives in that configuration. I give these hard drives 5/5 flames just cause of the speeds they were able to putout for me.
