Not bad storage drive

review by bonz(tm)

Not a bad storage drive. There are way better drives for the price out there now, but this came free with my Norco 4220 case on special. Used it as my C: drive for a month, couldn't bear it so I bought an SSD.

Now this houses my Steam directory. It keeps cool and does what it needs to do. No problems.

ProsCons
2 platter, keeps coolSlow 5400rpm

Samsung Spinpoint F4 1.5TB

review by strych9

Bought this drive for my ever increasing collection of movies, games, music, tv series, etc. before the HDD price hike, so got this for a very low price.

This drive is fast, well, the other HDD I have for storage, the F1 250GB 7200RPM (8MB cache) has the same read speed as this one, but a faster access time, 7.74ms, where the F4 has an access time of 9.7~11ms. So this isn't that bad compared to the 7200RPM F1, although this has a higher cache.

The temps get a bit high, without the side panel fans in my Phantom, temperature lurks between 35~37C and sometimes reaches 43C. With the fans, they stay within 35C. As for the F1, the temps never cross 35C, even without the side fans in the case.

So the bottom line is, this is a very good HDD for the price, at least for the price I initially bought it. Would rate it 5/5, it does the job what it is for.

ProsCons
Lots of space, 2 platters5400rpm, gets a bit hot
