2 in Crossfire 3D Mark 11 Score P15k+ stock! P9500 with single card
review by srice4904
I wanted to make an upgrade recently. When I purchased these they were going for about 600-700 retail. A bit much for a budget computer enthusiast. I was able to find some that were lightly used on ebay. For the budget happy price of $650 I was able to pick up 2! These cards are the largest cards I have ever owned and have some substantial weight to them. I upgraded from 2 Sapphire HD 7950's in crossfire and my 3d mark score went up over p2500. As other reviewers have mentioned they get hot and loud in crossfire and it is a future plan of mine to get them under water using a full coverage water block.
Gaming on my 1080p 120hz 60" Sharp TV I am certain that for the next few years I'll be able to push the newest games at the highest settings, granted there are some drivers. I just made the jump to crossfire last year and on my 6850's in xfire I have had a few issues but the current drivers play games nicely, The 7950's in xfire can play just about anything and the 290x's are BEASTS! A lot of people frown on xfire because of the occasional complications with installation and drivers. And the fact that when new games come out they almost never have good crossfire drivers. But if your like me and you play games a few months after they come out AMD usually (Usually lol) have some pretty solid drivers, then you will be fine. IMHO the benefits outweigh the headache. Having close to double the computing power with older games with rock solid drivers is a pleasant experience.
I must admit I am hyper critical about resolutions and my games. Being born with better then perfect vision(20/13 20/15) I am and have always been able to see the imperfections in games. I've heard most people cannot see the difference between 60fps and 120fps... Not me folks I can see everything and want the best!
I used speedfan to crank these up to 100% gpu fan speed and I must say they are LOUD! They even rival my Delta QFR fans at 100% (I have 2 I keep at 30% for my WC setup) And being in xfire and running for a while they will get there. The main reason I believe and plan to get some full coverage water blocks in the future.
Sorry about the 1st review was a little groggy and tired and usually do better. ENJOY!
Pros
Cons
Very fast and powerful card/cards. no crossfire connectors, black red ATI color scheme looks good IMHO
After these things have been running for a while they get very hot, when they do with both fans running at 100% they rival my DELTA QFR fans... lol
