Pros: Informative Display which always position to read , Intuitive menus and easy to learn, Great image quality, 100% legacy to Konica/Minolta lenses.
Cons: no video feature
It's not my first DSLR I used to own Minolta MAXXUM 7000.
I photograph Sports-gymnastics in the move and portraits in action as most.
At first with this camera you can notice a very deep colour,
with almost any kind of lenses lower than f4 you can achieve very good catch of a movement without bloore and wiped motions.
Shutter speed is awesome and it very informative at shoots, shutter goes up to 6fps at burst but this is not the point, shutter button works just when you need it, very sensitive in a good way.
Menu is highly informative without any sluggish delay. Also layout of the controls is clearly for professional use, with front and back scroll buttons, which doubles your control option.
My personal love is the customisable control joystick. With this joystick positioned right at my thumb/big finger at any camera body position Vertical or Horizontal, during photo-shoot action I can control focusing position priority by moving quickly at any of 9 focal points, which helps me to achieve best viewable point during sport action.
This is full frame camera and you need good lens to work with to made a crop if needed after and my favourite lens for action is 70-200 f2.8 but even with 70-300 f5/f5'6 by Tamron I was able to catch a perfect moves... see picture with "girl jumping over the wheat", and at next look at the water drops around... Shutter speed was set to 1/8000, lens 70-300 f5/f5'6 by Tamron
Yes I would definitely recommend it to my friend even if it's discontinued and he taking used from e-Bay

The sensor measures almost the same size as the APS-c chip in the previous models which is 1.25x crop. On the upside though, this makes the A700 compatible with the full range of Alpha lenses including DT models.
OMG....Super SteadyShot.... I forgot to mention that Sony DSLR body build in Picture Stabilization so you don't have to pay each time for this feature when you buy new lens.
