First of all I would like to say this is more of a usability review than a technical one. For technical performance, in-depth reviews of other leadex platinum units can be found elsewhere and all show outstanding performance.
My old PSU died on me so I needed a new one asap, I purchased it for ?74.99 from OCUK. This is somewhat expensive for a 550w unit but it comes from a trusted brand, Super Flower and is 80+ platinum certified. They mainly produce oem units for other companies such as EVGA but the Leadex series are fast gaining a reputation for reliability and quality.
The packaging is high quality and the unit is well protected. The included cables arrive inside their own pouch. The cables themselves are completely black and fully sleeved and the PSU side connector is clear and is illuminated by LEDs when plugged in and turned on. Sadly the other ends of the cable are colour coded and will clash with most colour schemes. Included are 4 thumb screws for tool-less installation.
Specs for anyone interested
Its also worth noting that the leadex platinum series use full japanese Nichicon capacitors whereas the gold series use japanese/taiwanese.
The initial installation hit a slight bump in the road when trying to use the included thumb screws to secure the unit as the threading was not good enough to secure by hand and thus had to be screwed in with a screwdriver. This is a minor niggle however it does take away the advantage of supposedly tool-less installation. Overall the rest of the installation went well, the connectors fit well and the cables are long enough to reach where they need to be even in my fairly spacious enthoo luxe. My biggest issue with the cables is the fact they are so stiff. In fact while installing the PCI-E power connector I tried to bend it so that it would actually fit with the side panel on and it looked as if it was going to rip the socket off my graphics card so I had to use a braided extension I had lying around. Overall the finished build looks neat enough (considering my lacklustre cabe management skills) and everything is wired up securely.
The unit looks great in action with the built in LEDs. There is a switch for eco and auto. Eco mode will only activate the fan once a certain temperature threshold is reached and thus is silent in day to day use.
Overall I am very pleased with the unit as it is very high quality and looks great, I just wish the cables were more forgiving.
Pros
Cons
Very efficient, fully modular, great aesthetics, high end components, long cables, silent
Very stiff cables, quite expensive, bad screw threads, coloured cable ends
