Venomous X - Great cooler

review by ieatfish

One of the best CPU coolers, the Venomous X does a great job cooling the more recent CPUs. It has been on my i7 920 overclocked to 4 GHz and keeps temps under 55C easily. Mounting is very easy and it even has an adjustable knob so you can get exactly the amount of pressure you want. I am using a single Gentle Typhoon fan.

ProsCons
Great cooling, compact size, includes fan mounts, mean lookingTall

Always amongst the best

review by wishmaker

I purchased this product at launch to replace a Noctua. I paid quite the sum on it as it just showed up in the shops. I am using it in a push-pull Zalman ZF3 combo and it does an amazing job too cool my I7 920 cpus. I like that it is very slim and my Trident RAM has no issue fitting at all. Compared to my old Noctua I gained 12 degrees at full load. It holds my cpus at bay between 3.8 GHz and 4.2 GHz with HT on. The C0 which is the lower clocked, requires significantly more voltage than its counterpart and in P95 I hit 60-70 Celsius depending on the ambient. Bear in mind that to stabilize the C0 at 3.8 GHz I sometimes need to use 1.37 V which is quite high.

In any case, I highly recommend this product as it provides adequate performance. If you look at the minus I listed, bear in mind that this case has not been documented on all motherboards. There have been a few cases on OCN where some users have reported problems with their sockets. These sockets could have been of a lower quality than the majority.

ProsCons
Perfect for people with tall RAM, Full Load makes it shineThe retention system can wreak havoc on low quality sockets
