Thermaltake V3 Black Edition VL80001W2Z Computer Case With Side Panel Window

Description:
The Thermaltake V3 Black Edition is coated in black from the inside to the outside, lending it stylish looks and a degree of individuality. A transparent window at the back end of the left side panel allows for a look inside the case. This way the brilliant blue beams of the pre-installed 120mm rear exhaust-fan can emanate in a black-bluish array. A perforated black mesh front panel offers optimized airflow and a sleek design. As characteristic for all Thermaltake chassis, the V3 Black Edition is also optimized for most effective airflow with the option for 3 additional case fans: the front panel allows you to add a 120mm intake fan, the top panel offers the possibility for a 120mm exhaust fan and on the bottom is room for yet one more intake fan. The standard ATX PSII PSU can conveniently be placed at the bottom of the case where you find an intake exhaust hole to immediately blow cold outside air into the PSU. An extra dust filter is attached to this fan hole in order to keep dust and dirt out of the case and the PSU, effectively prolonging your power supply’s lifetime. With dimensions of 430 (H) x 190 (W) x 473 (D) mm the V3 Black Edition is a conveniently sized mid-tower that still offers more than enough room for system upgrades and expandability. There are four 5.25 and one 3.5 bays accessible from the front, and further four 3.5 and one 2.5 bays are accessible from the inside. Peripheral connectivity is given through the implementation of two USB 2.0 and HD audio connectors for MIC and speaker at the front panel. With Power Supply: No Power Supply Mounted: Bottom With Side Panel Window: Yes External 5.25"" Drive Bays: 4 External 3.5"" Drive Bays: 1 Internal 3.5"" Drive Bays: 4 Front Ports: USB 2.0 x 2, HD Audio ports Side Air duct: No

Good case for the money.

review by gavush

I bought this case on sale for $34.99 with a $10 rebate so it was $25. It was for a budget build I pieced together for my nephew. We were really pinching pennies. It has some great features at this price point, so far as a black interior and motherboard CPU cooler bracket cut-out with both front side panels removable. It also has the nifty little window and includes an LED fan which adds a little bling.

It's an inexpensive case, so it's not the most robust thing and it has an overall cheap feel to it. It worked fairly well with one huge exception that had me wishing I bought something else. With what I considered a standard motherboard (Asus M5a97 R2.0) there was not enough clearance for standard case fans between the top of the case and the motherboard to mount the fans as intended. I had to mount them offset to clear the RAM slots and CPU power supply connection. This was very frustrating. Supposedly you can mount slim 120mm fans and they will fit. They should had made the case 5-10mm taller. It only includes one tool-less lock for each bay type, which was sufficient for what we needed. If it was up to me I would had used screws rather than the flimsy plastic bits but my nephew liked them. It did take extra time to put together since it wasn't as nice to work with as a case costing twice as much, but it gets the job done and he likes it and I'm not going to have to take it all apart to install an aftermarket air-cooler later down the road.

ProsCons
Black interior, CPU cut-out, fan mounting options, window, upper fan clearance issues, flimsy, sketchy front panel removal / reinstallation
