Pros: Fast, high capacity
Cons: price
This hard drive is easily in the top 3 7200rpm drives available right now. Of course, it doesn't even come close to a half decent SSD, but the performance you get out of this is unbeatable.
This being the Black series, it does consume more power, but it really is a negligible amount. Windows definitely feels much faster to boot and everything is much more responsive compared to older drives and 5400rpm drives. On average, on single large files (7+ GB), its not uncommon to see a spike of about 175MB/s then drop to about 120 and stabilize. Windows, even with about 20 start up programs boots up incredibly fast - about 30 seconds to a fully working functional desktop (of course, the start up programs are still being initialized, but the system feels just as responsive as if it was left to fully finish starting up). Games load up much faster, as do installs. A defragment of the drive once every two to three weeks should keep it running in tip-top shape.
For an internal drive of 1.5TB capacity, it is more expensive than other models, but the extra cost is well worth it. In most tests, it beats WD's own flagship Velociraptor. The only tests it does fall behind are the random read/writes due this one being 7200rpm vs the Velociraptor's 10,000rpm.
Overall, this is a very good buy for anyone who is looking for the absolute best performance out of Hard drives, but don't to want to spring for a SSD just yet. I would most definitely buy this again, and am planning on buying another to upgrade another one of my systems later this year.
