Description:
The Zalman CNPS9900 MAX-R combines some of the most advanced technologies in the market used for CPU coolers to create powerful cooling performance. The CPU cooler utilizes composite heatpipe which is 50% more effective in transferring heat compared to ordinary heatpipes. Combined with a whisper-quiet 135 mm red LED PWM fan positioned between two massive nickel plated pure copper heatsinks, the CNPS9900 MAX-R is more than enough to satisfy overclockers and users who are looking for ultra powerful cooling performance in silent operation.
I was very surprised when I unboxed this giant! My last build with the phenom 2 1100t used a Cooler Master n520 and this is bigger still. Manufactured with top-quality materials and very solid. Cools my CPU as well as I'll ever need it to! I surely would've used this baby before had I known how well it performed. Although it does cost a pretty penny, I believe that you get what you pay for, and skimping when it comes to cooling your CPU isn't the area to go cheap. One thing they need to improve is the thermal paste. It's very hard to spread and caused me problems until I re-applied new paste (arctic silver) and it hasn't skipped a beat since. They need to just not include it or include better paste because when u spend 70 bucks for a air cooler, you'd expect all that is included with it to be of good quality. Really, that's my only complaint. I'll be using this one from now on for all of my builds that require air cooling!
Pros
Cons
Solid copper that's nickel coated. It is manufactured solid.Easy assembly. great cpu temps.
Very LARGE! Somewhat heavy. Expensive, almost costs what H2O does.
I'm all with you on this one. I got the blue one and I love it. Cools like a champ for air cooling. Sure it's not the best of the best for cooling but I think it looks much better than those massive tower coolers.
I have had this cpu heatsink (the blue edition) since January of 2012 and I'm impressed. So far I have been able to overclock my stubborn FX-6100 to 4.5GHz at 1.5v. My cpu is idling at: 36C, 2 hours of prime: 62C, ambient temp of: 24C. I have not had any problems with this heatsink since I bought it (at Newegg), the installation was very easy and they provided great instructions for beginners. I have had many cpu heatsinks over the past few years, mostly for testing purposes, and this one does a great job for the value. I definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a great heatsink for a fair price.
Pros
Cons
Strong airflow at low RPM's, led not blindingly bright, many placement options, easy installation
Sometimes a bit loud at high RPM's, pretty big (no really a con unless you have a small case)
Could've gotten something better for $80, but it will do
