Zotac GTX 980 Ti AMP! Great... but not perfect.

review by noodlegts

Yo,

I'ved owned this card for a few days and figured I'd contribute to the site by writing a review for it.

I have it hooked up to a single 2560x1440 ASUS RoG Swift w/ Gsync enabled. The card runs every title I've tried absolutely maxed out with smooth frame rates, although Star Wars Battlefront can be very taxing with all the detail enabled in the forest levels (gets down to about 30FPS). Overwatch occasionally dips down in that rage as well with everything set to Epic but without the FPS counter on games felt smooth. No complaints in this department.

With a 4.5GHz i7 4770K I got mid 7000s on Fire Strike (the 2k resolution one). With my max overclock (more below) on the stock cooler I was able to reach 8854 points.

Overclocking was a fairly straightforward affair. Got into MSI Afterburner, maxed the voltage adjustment at +87mv and started cranking the core/mem up. Was able to add 225MHz on the core and something like 475MHz on the memory... A pretty good and really simple overclock but really it makes you wonder why they can't overclock this card a little bit more out of the factory.

One thing that was disappointing was the 110% power limit. I bumped into it a few times and that ultimately is what capped my performance. On a card like this I'd like to see it set a bit higher, especially when the cooler is so great (more below).

Pros:

-Construction: Very solid. There's no cheap feeling plastic like on some EVGA cards. It's a $600 card and it feels like one.

-Cooling: Non-reference design with 3 fans. Even overclocked and overvolted, the card never exceeded 74C for me. The stock cooler does a very good job keeping the card quiet at idle (the fans don't actually spin). Under load the cooler can get a bit louder but it's more of a woosh air sound than an annoying fan sound. And when I'm gaming the game noise covers the fan sound anyway, whether from headphones or speakers.

-Overclocking: Was able to add 225 MHz to the core and over 400 MHz to the memory for a huge boost in performance

-It looks pretty badass, without being tacky.

Cons:

-Power limit should be higher.. if you want to do huge ridiculous overclocking you will be limited.

-Card really should be OC'd a little more from the factory.

Overall a good card
