Zowie ZA13

review by arizonian

Color LED DPI indicator underneath mouse with DPI button changer.

Extra mouse skates included with ZA logo sticker.
(ZA logoo sticker not pictured).

Zowie intructions.

The coating all around the mouse feels comfortable for my dry hands. It's more smooth than grainy. Good for palm grip or hybrid claw grip.

I shook the mouse and I did not hear any rattling inside the shell, from the lens or the scroll wheel. The scroll wheel does not rattle back-and-forth. When I tried to move the scroll wheel side to side with my finger I would say there's a tad more play than my Savu. I feel it's in an acceptable range. When down clicking on the scroll wheel I do not feel any side to side movement. Its a tad more audible scrolling than my Savu scroll wheel. Perhaps the smaller ZA13 shell is a better fit around it over the other ZA's.

I've never used blue Huanon switches in a mouse before and I don't think the stiffness is that much of difference for me. I don't see a problem getting used to it. The slightly stiffer clicks of button 1 & 2 have more of a tactile feel when shooting in games and I kind of like it. Once clicked I find the shell responsively retracts back quickly. I understand why some might prefer this in FPS games. I'm no longer going to discriminate a mouse based on it's switches. Each persons experience amounts to personal opinion but doesn't make one type of switch better than the other if it's a non-issue for the end user.

I already felt content with the 3090 sensor so I welcome the 3310 sensor in this mouse even more. Some might be sensitive to sensor positioning of the sensor underneath, but I didn't have any problem acclimating with the sensor implementation in correlation to pointer and the ZA13 smaller body form.

Size of this mouse will not be for everyone. It will not be ideal for large hands and medium hands who don't prefer smaller mice. Look to the other ZA's for different sizes. I can hybrid claw-palm grip it or palm it and the butt end feels right to me under the palm. This will be highly subjective to each person and some might feel the butt end is too high or positioned too far back. Shell forms can make or break a mouse and preference varies. I found it comfortable.

Side buttons on either side are adjustable from one side or to the other. They are easy to click but not easy enough that it happens when your gaming unless it's intentional.

DPI can be adjusted by turning mouse over with a button. Different color LED lights identify which DPI setting your in.

Only bad caveat, it may not be as suitable for all types of game play where one might spam button 1 & 2 based on the switches.

The Huanon switches cannot be blamed all around as for some it may be a preference and others may not mind like I found myself. In fact I reiterate in FPS games I'm finding I like the actuation of the Huanon clicks and reactive response of the ZA shell preferable over the mushy Omron clicks that seem to roll together less distinctively.

So in summary for my first Zowie product, I've had a good experience and its now my main. No click latency, great LOD, coating feels good all around, straight forward gaming mouse with a mature sensor. I cannot comment on the other ZA's but feel the ZA13 came out a serious contender to mice it's size.

NOTE: Click latency issue had been fixed prior to ZA series release.

NOTE: Hyperglide FK series mouse skates will NOT fit the ZA13.

(Hyperglide has acknowledged this on their website , look there for announcement when ZA13 'specific' skates will be released)

Though not on package these Hyperglides fit the ZA11 & ZA12 perfectly, just not the ZA13. See next pic.

Bottom fits, need a steady hand as it's got no room for play to be off by either side. Top is a fraction off and cannot say fits.
