Sweet.

Considering that it also allows you to move your array between computers, and lets you use SAS drives, its definitely worth the investment.

If you get the Battery Back Up unit... your data is very safe. Your data will be more protected than an UPS. A CPU overheat or motherboard short would shut off your HDs and might corrupt your data if you enable caching. With the separate battery pack, your data is still safe.

Does anyone have a screeny for a benchmark for a max throughput of this card? We have one at work and it is maxing out at about 200MB/s in a 15 disc raid 5. Any ideas on whats going on?

I've think I saw someone hit 70MB/s with the card.... (can't seem to find it now). Here is someone with 300MB/s in a 8xRAID5:

Is Adaptive Read Ahead enabled?

Yes, and one thing to note it is the Perc 5/e not Perc 5/i, don't know if that matters or not.

*EDIT*
these are the 750gig Seagate NS drives, btw

Is ARA enabled?

Can you test the drives individually?

How did you hook up 15 disks to one card? Or are you linking two cards?

The MD1000 has a PERC 5/e daisychained to a PERC 6/e internally. If you connected the MD1000 to another PERC 5/e, then you are just setting the performance of the MD1000. The array performance is internal to the DAS and the other PERC 5/e can't do anything to accelerate performance.

Ahhh i gotcha, i understand the setup now, sorry first time i have looked at this box. What is the Max througput of the Perc 6/e then? Doesnt the 200MB/s look low?

The 6/e is better than the 5/i (and 5/e). However, what is the configuration of the 5/e+6e internally? Is caching and read-ahead enabled within the MD1000?
