Username/PW is your OS Login/PW. If PW is blank, leave PW blank.

Thanks a lot Duckie I have the log do you want me to post it? It is pretty extensive and I have no idea what I am looking for LOL. I am sorry for being such a noob but this is all new to me. As a matter on fact I have never used more than two drives in RAID much less an addon RAID card.

Go backwards from the current time and look for anything unusual like "WB disabled".

Also, turn off Read Ahead since you are using SSDs.

Well unfortunately I do not know what unusual is. I did not see anything about WB disabled, but I do see a lot of "Drive not Certified" I am sorry if this is getting old but it has been old to me. I have been working this out sense last night. I am ready to send it back and just use the dreaded onboard LOL

Nothing unusual there.... what's your benchmark now?

Villian. Are you benchmarking using HDTune or HDTach? Or are you doing real world pulls from the array?

If you are using HDTune to benchmark, did you try setting your block size higher? I thought I was having problems with my 5 drive array, but then I set my block size higher and got much better results. I also did real world pushes and pulls to/from the drives.

Well I added two more SSD's and rebuilt the RAID array. I noticed something about it though... when I tried to Initialize the array the words turned red. What I mean is when you at the first screen of the PERC BIOS, and it shows you the VD and what not the words are in red after I initialize. If I use the fast Initialize feature this does not occur. Also now with 4 30GB SSD's I get about 130MB/s transfer and I was getting nearly twice that with the MB's ICH9R SB. I have WB enabled and I have the BBU. I disabled Read Ahead, and left all the check boxed unchecked (HotSpare, and Initialize).

I just tried increasing my block size from 64 to 256, and got the same results pretty much. I have been using HD Tach and HD Tune so that I can see how they compare and they are basically the same. I also just now test 1m blocks and transfers reached 460MB/s much much better but still not as much as I was expecting.

Update: Using HD Tach on default I get about 30MB/s read, and upping the HD Tune blocks to 8MB I am seeing about 500MB/s. Is there a way to test actually real world tranfers?

old overclockers rule of thumb: pull out expansion cards (sound card, raid cards, etc) when you OC. If you are OC'ing high enough that you think you need to over juice the pci-e bus, then it could potentially be high enough to corrupt some stuff. Just unplug your card and save yourself the hassle.

Back in the day, I would have an install of win2k on a seagate IDE drive (when SATA first appeared) as overclocking would corrupt installs through sata drives, but IDE was always dead stable.

My mobo is a gigabyte ds4 p35 with windows vista 32 ultimate.

But I have some question.

I have a perc 5i card, and first my mobo not boot.

I have got a message if i don't put the RAM on the card.

The pin 5 and 6 is now covered.

The mobo boot, but i have not the message to enter in the card bios. (ctrl C....)

My card is reconized as LSI card sas 3000 but with "code 10".

Impossible to flash the card.

My card is faulty ?

I buy à another card (perc 5 ir).

Excuse my for my english, but i'am french.

Thanks you for your help.
I don't think your card is fault, mine had the same issues. Make sure your pin 5 & 6 are covered: my nail polish got bitten through and since then, I've been using electrical tape.

You won't be able to do anything with the code 10 until you fix it, likewise, you can not flash the card through windows without drivers being installed.

I believe what I did is let windows install the dell drivers first so its up and running. Then flashed to the lsi firmware, restarted, and installed the lsi drivers.

See if that works and get back to us, but I'm betting your pcie bus bit through your nail polish on the pins

That is how I updated my FW. I let windows find the drivers after I used black tape on the 5/6 pin. I then realized I had the wrong cable, now I have the right one, and now I am troubleshooting the array. So does anyone suppose that all is well here? I mean I am getting much better results witha higher block size but can anyone explain why so slow with smaller blocks.

HDTach and HDTune are not really optimized to test SSD... combine that with a RAID controller handling the data internally different...

Try running ATTO or HDTune to get performance graphs at varying block sizes.
