Can you try hooking up 8 drives individually without the backplane and see how fast it runs for you? I believe your bottleneck is actually your SATA backplane, not the card.

This wasn't my project at work so i kinda want to stay out of it, but..... we already have data on it, not mission critical data, but 10TB of data none the less. So i would rather not try to pull that off LOL. However that pdf i linked earlier of the MD1000 shows it doing over 700MB/s, so i wouldn't think the backplane in it is the problem.

hehe, i am just stumped with what is going on, i don't really understand the chaining of raid cards and what not, so i am kinda confused. I should take my question to another thread to stay on topic.

Your bottleneck is probably some stupid setting someone forgot about. Or just a bad wiring job or something.

The card is recommend if you are running RAID0 with 4+ HDD, RAID5, or if you want the better performance. With the BBU, your data is safer than if you had a UPS.
