Yes, I should have listed that. I will mess around with some more today. I have some ideas that I am going to try, it's just frustrating. I knew I would need to do some minor tweaks, just didn't realize it was going to be like this.

By the way, my specs in my sig are correct if you were wondering what equipment was using.

Hi

Just wanted to say thanks for all those great info.

Just received my 5i today after reading this post for the last 2 weeks.

My Raid5 is currently initializing, but I just wanted to contribute with my experience:

Asus P6T Deluxe X58 board: The Card post but gave me a lot of trouble.
- Windows didn't want to boot even if it's on a drive on the motherboard..

- Windows Vista DVD didn't want to start either, giving a kernel error

- Reboot was working 50% of the time

I did the pin mod and so far so good. Windows Booted without problem.

My Setup:

Asus P6T Deluxe
Core I7 920
6Gb Ram
PERC 5i Raid
3x 1Tb (2 WD green + 1 Hitashi)
1x 300Gb Veliceraptor

Will post later.

Something that seems to have helped was resetting the bios after installing the card. Then just re-entering my settings and now the bios sees the card each time, no issues there. I am still trying to get Windows to see it, but I have a theory that I am currently trying out, I am setting up my Windows on a single drive so I can disable RAID in the bios. I am thinking the two are conflicting with each other. We will see.

I am not sure... Should I try different settings? Direct I/O instead of Cached? I would think Cached would be faster.

At any rate... maybe this is a limitation of the PERC card? Honestly I didn't buy 8 drives for the speed, just the amount of space... so I'm not really disappointed in the speed. Especially the write speed, which is pretty freaking awesome compared to my last RAID 5 on the ICH9R. But hey, if you have any ideas let me know. I'm at work now but I will probably get back to testing tonight if I don't get too drunk. It being a Friday and all

You don't need the pin mod on an x58 motherboard. I have the same board as you and my old 5/i and my new 6/i work fine without the pins blocked off.

Should the same apply to UTNorris' Blood Rage board then?

Appears he has it going now, but just a thought...

Thats a good point, but... I dont think blocking the pins has a detrimental effect, but I could be wrong. It worked right out of the box for me so I didn't bother trying with the pins blocked, so I'm not really sure if it does have a detrimental effect.

I haven't been to the front page for a while, but is that noted there?

IMHO it should be to save any confusion/prob's
