I see it's not there.

I also wondered about mentioning (maybe making it clearer is better term) that covering the two pins should only be done on the one side of the board. I recall at least one reader covered both sides and iirc encountered problems.

B

edit... I was having a poke around in the classifieds and see one of the guys was offering perc 6i cards...

Does anyone know if the drives will transfer from a 5i to a 6i and retain all their data, etc?

My problem is that I get this message:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

I have tried to install different drivers, the pin mod, disabled thr ICH10R Raid mode, different slots. Nothing seems to work. I do not know what else to do. I am going to try it on a friends computer, but I think I will have the same luck, meaning it's the card. But we will see.

By the way, my bios sees it. I can even boot to it if I had an OS on it.

Well I would like to know why it was so eratic before I did the mod. Couldn't boot windows nor his DVD (for repair)

pin mod and windows boot, everything is working (afaik.. 36% initialization.. Zzzz.)

Forgive me for not wanting to read 170+ pages but...

On the first page it mentions there are issues with Intel chipsets. I read a few of the last pages that the "pin mod" isn't required on x58 chipsets. Does that mean these cards work just fine with the x58?

What about Windows 7? I assume the drivers for Vista would work with 7...

I would also probably buy a PERC 6i.

Thanks..

It appears that you are correct on both counts...

X58 chipset is okay without the mod. Windows7... unsure, but can't imagine it wouldn't have drivers for the card inbuilt.

At any rate... maybe this is a limitation of the PERC card? Honestly I didn't buy 8 drives for the speed, just the amount of space... so I'm not really disappointed in the speed. Especially the write speed, which is pretty freaking awesome compared to my last RAID 5 on the ICH9R. But hey, if you have any ideas let me know. I'm at work now but I will probably get back to testing tonight if I don't get too drunk. It being a Friday and all
It's definitely not a limitation of the card... There are benchmarks here of over 600MB/s.

Don't know 100% for the X58. The issue is mainly BIOS dependent.

I expect Windows 7 to be fully supported.
