Here's the basis of the PERC 5/i... notice the HS on the ARM processor and larger HS on the Intel CPU:
![]() ....and they used screw mounts.... I want to fabricate my own heatsink but can't figure to secure it.

Awesome! +rep!
Question: Will the card (pci-e x8, right?) work in a modded x4 slot? I'm planning on cutting off the end of the PCIe slot so it'll fit, but I'm not sure it'll work. People have said that folding on x16 cards in x4 slots work with the mod, so there'a always a chance the PERC will as well. In my photos did anyone notice the scratch in the board above pins B5, and B6? Rather then trying to paint, or cover the pins, you can see the 2 lans on the top layer of the PCB that feed the SM-Bus pins. Use a razor blade, and if done right you'll actually feel the razor breaking the lans. It's much cleaner then paint, and will last forever. Also, if ever needed they can be re-attached, it just take some soldering skills. :-) I could do it blind folded.

Does this card support RAID6 when flashed with the LSI firmware?
According to the LSI datasheet, the MegaRAID SAS 8408E is 'RAID 6 Ready'. Also, would there me any issues with like a three drive RAID-5 array? I'm looking to have 4 drives total, one being a hot spare. If I get one more drive, I just have to get another cable and do an online capacity expansion? Thanks! |
