hey guys,
knowing that i have a problem with the charging curcuit that cannot really be fixed is there a way to deactivate the automatic switch to write-back when the battery is off??

O and also is there by any chance a place i can get a perc 6i? Considering that ebay doesnt really have that many of them (or am i searching for them under the wrong name)?

Tnx

Using the LSI MegaRaid utility you should be able to set the properties of the virtual disk and set it to not change to Write through on dead BBU. This may or may not work, depending on your firmware revision.

I got my 6/i on a sale here, from borito4. The best way to get these cards remains secondhand, since they cost upwards of 4-500 dollars new.

Ye im currently running the dell firmware and it seems to be working fine, its just that because i either have a cable problem or something it seems that i cant get the battery to be recognized. So im thinking of switching to a perc 6i. There were a couple on eBay but all of them are missing the mounting loops and the heat sink on the chip (they are around $130) im wondering if there i a way to mount a new heat sink without the mounting loops being there (without using some drastic measures like apoxy)

Tnx again

The LSI CPU on the 6/i has a rather large heatspreader mounted to the chip, so you could easily get a northbridge cooler or similar and use Arctic Alumina thermal adhesive to get it stuck on the heatspreader.

Nope. There aren't enough or close screw holes for a hard mount. The only mod that I could think of (and it is extreme).... drill out the loop mounts and convert them to screw holes. The area around the mounts should be a no-go zone.....

Just a note... the IHS is attached only to the chip. It is NOT attached to the packaging along the edges like AMD or Intel CPUs. Be careful not to remove or break the IHS since it will probably damage the chip.

Indeed. This would make it extremely difficult to remove the heatsink if you wanted to change/replace it, without using a heat gun to melt the adhesive. But I wouldnt worry about the weight of the heatsink you intend to add cracking the IHS off because it is most likely soldered on.

Well, I have given up on this adventure since my Blood Rage will not work with card with the current Bios. I am hoping I can sell the cards and SAS drives quickly either here or on Hardforum. If anyone is looking for a 5i PM me or look for my "for sale" thread. Thanks to everyone that tried to help me in this adventure.

I flashed my card back to the latest (I think) Dell BIOS. Now when I run HDTune I am getting much less performance than when I had the LSI firmware.

Any idea what might be? AFAIK there isn't much disk I/O going on, and I'm peaking at 300MB/s with large fluctuations.

Its an "issue" with the Dell firmware. Whilst my overall performance was better with LSI, the Dell had a nice smooth stable graph.

Yep. Dell firmware doesnt perform as well as the LSI.
