help with flash
when opening windows run command i dont know how to complete steps 4 and 5
4) Navigate to the MegaCLI directory
5) Run the command: MegaCli -adpfwflash -f [firmware name].rom -a0

How to Flash the Dell PERC 5/i with LSI MegaRAID SAS 8480E Firmware
NOTE: Since the card uses a Dell Bootloader, there is a possible corruption as defined in Post #1343. It is recommended that you use the Dell firmware unless it does not work. The latest Dell firmware can be found here: http://support.dell.com/support/down...id=-1&impid=-1

The latest LSI firmware (card not recognised) on some systems, where reverting to 7.0.1-0051 or (supposedly) 7.0.1-0056 should resolve the issue.[/quote]

The LSI version of this card is kept more up to date with bug fixes. Also, the LSI version has more software features so might as well get the better model.

8480E Drivers: http://www.lsi.com/storage_home/prod...ex.html#Driver
8480E MegaRAID Storage Manager: http://www.lsi.com/storage_home/prod...#Miscellaneous

The Windows version is the easiest to use so I'll provide those steps:
1) Download and extract the LSI flashing utility "MegaCLI - Windows"
2) Download the and extract the 7.0.1-0061: http://www.lsi.com/cm/License.do?url...ware&locale=EN
3) Place the .ROM file in the MegaCLI folder
3) Open a command prompt window
4) Navigate to the MegaCLI directory
5) Run the command: MegaCli -adpfwflash -f [firmware name].rom -a0

Under what directory did you store the Flashing utility? Go there.

You're using the command line incorrectly. What exactly are you typing?

It should follow:
\:> MegaCli -adpfwflash -f [firmware name].rom -a0

So... Open a Command Prompt.

Then use the change directory command ("cd") to navigate to your desktop folder. Use "dir /w" to check what directories are underneath your current directory. It probably is something like: "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop".

got sys cannot find drive specified
Because that is just a template command.... A generic command that you need to select the right directory to run on your PC.

cd desktop/[whatever folder you have your LSI files in]

You're just in Command Prompt.... it's the same thing as clicking through directories with a mouse.... without the GUI.

copy MEGACLI.EXE file to C:\
copy your *.ROM file to C:\

then click START -> RUN enter CMD (hit enter)
then type:
C: (enter)
cd \ (enter)
MegaCli -adpfwflash -f SAS1068_FW_Image.rom -a0

SAS1068_FW_Image.rom is the name of 7.0.1-0066 firmware rom file - if you have something else - type it instead of SAS1068_FW_Image.rom
