Can anybody look up wat resources the Perc 5/i uses by default?
I can try to keep that one exclusive for the Perc 5/i....

As far as I know there is no resource issue between the 4870X2 and the PERCs. I was running a 5/i and a 6/i alongside the 4870X2 for awhile. Still am. Thing is, Im using x58. I would say it could be a combination of things adding up to an incompatibility.

At this point, I would try to see if upgrading/downgrading your motherboard BIOS fixes it.

Hi

I got a replacement card now. Installed and my Raid configuration was detected!

But the same problem happen again. I was doing some backup of important stuff when my logical drive (D: ) disappeared once again. Worked for about an hour.

I have no idea what the problem is. It's an new card, new memory, only the BBU is the same (and hard drives of curse) I have a 40mm fan right on the heatsink + a 80mm blowing in the direction of the card (+ good overall airflow)

I'm clueless now

Is the BBU holding a charge?

Is your card possibly overheating? It gets HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT.

The BBu is ok.. Maybe I can remove it to see.. I don't need very fast array, I need stability.

In the manager, there is no error. Battery temperature is normal, start charging then stop few minutes after.

The card is barely warm to touch right now. My old card, the back of the card (where the chip is) was very hot.. This one is warm at worst. nothing near hot.

I rebooted and I'm continuing the backup right now.. Strange enough, simply rebooting and it's fine.

Could be a psu issue - prolonged heavy seeks & it falls over.

How many drives are involved?

Strange there is a temperature difference between the 2 cards. Both should get pretty hot pretty quickly (or at least faily warm), even with good airflow & enhanced heatsinking.

My PowerSupply is an OCZ Xtreme 600W.. 4 years old or so.

I have 4x1Tb drive (3 WD green) in my array (+1 Veliceraptor for system)
Computer is Core I7 920 overclocked to 3.4Ghz.

I have a UPS which show me the load of the computer (+everything connected to it) and it barely ever pass the 400W mark, screen and speakers included.

The card is warm, but I can stick my finger on it.. The old one I would burn myself. It's colder than my video card at idle.

The card is working for few hours now.. I have removed a drive (so it's working degraded) and I used this one to make a backup of my most important file. I ordered an Areca ARC-1220 card. I can't trust Perc5 anymore.

The drive I removed is the newest I put in there. (I expended the array) and it's about that time I started to have problems. I tested the drive and it pass every test.

It's strange that it work better degraded than in normal mode.

Edit: blah... The drive disappeared when itune was browsing my library (first time starting it after a backup...) It's intense seeking, but I have made backup half of the day at 120mb/sec on 3 separate drive at the same time.. Mostly huge files.
