The end result is the same though - you don't want 2 caches, as you want/need to ensure only the battery-backed cache on the card holds any unwritten data to make sure data corruption does not occur in the event of power loss. |

I am picking up a P55 board, I heard that the the PERC 5/I board works without the pin mod on the X58 and was wondering if this also true for the P55 chipset?

Applogies if this question has already been covered.. I did some fourm searches but didn't come up with anything.
Just got my new perc 5/i in the mail. Can't get it to post though, getting a post audio error of long + short + short. Anyone else run into this? It's pointing towards a general video fault. I've made sure that PCI is set for video in bios, as I have a pci video card hooked up. My motherboard is an M2N SLI Deluxe which I've read in a couple places is compatible. Any suggestions guys? |

Update on working config:
MSI P45D3 Platinum 4GB DDR3 (extra 4GB comes tomorrow) Windows 7 Enterprise RTM x64 PERC 5/i with latest (.72) Intel firmware and Intel Server 2008 x64 driver 8x 36GB Seagate Savvio 15K SAS disks, RAID5 Intel Web Console 2 No BBU yet, will see how it reboots with intel's firmware Works very nice, finally saturating my GBit LAN - 125MB/s from PERC to PERC over LAN All required software is here (choose Server 2008 as target OS): http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sear...13&FamilyId=37 |

Some of the nForce chipsets need it as well. It has to do with the IRQ that the SMBus operates on, most of nvidia's chipsets use different IRQs than the PERC but some use the same conflicting IRQ.
I bet the 570 SLI MCP is one that uses the same conflicting IRQ, if covering the pins helped you out.
