On a completely seperate note, does anyone know a way to setup LSI Megaraid Storage-manager to email notifications without a local smtp server? IE. use gmail or an ISP that requires some sort of encryption?

Or should i just bite the bullet and setup an smtp server locally?

My ISP eventually started blocking my own SMTP server, but at the same time opened up the ability for me to use third-party (which they were blocking previously) as long as it was encrypted so I was OK with it..

.. so check first before you set it up.

But from what I can tell, there's no where to enter a username/password or select encryption options. How can I use my ISPs smtp if this is the case?

Theres a tool that was posted here created by a Greek user (IIRC) that allows you to set a custom SMTP host to send from, with options. I think its called PERC Tool or something like that. Good luck finding it, as I was unable to at first glance. This thread is massive

Does anyone have experience with Hitachi 2TB drives (non-enterprise) in raid 5? Do they also have the TLER issue and tools?

Default Drives not recognized

I've tried my best to search for a solution, but seems I have to ask you guys.

I have just installed a Perc5i without issues on my GIGABYTE GA-MA78GM-S2H.
No pin trick was required, and I have flashed it with the LSI -61 firmware without problems.
But when I hook up disks to the fanout cables they are not recognized. I don't even get a failure code. The Perc pretends they don't exist.
I've tried numerous disks without success.

Does this sound familiar ? Can the cables be at fault ? The cables look identical to several others posted here.

Edit: forgot to add that I'm not using a BBU. But no error messages regarding this.

Sounds like you have reverse cables - they are for backplanes, not for drives. They look the same though.

Not sure where best to get the proper cables in your country (as I don't know what country it is), but I'm sure it won't be long before someone else can post a link or recommendation.
