Just use S3. :-) instant boots, and the only thing that stays powered is your ram.

hibernate is great for laptops, but S3 is for desktops.

-Edit- I even use S3 in my carpc. It powers off within 2 seconds, and when I start my car I have my music or video resumed in under 5 seconds. My old Alpine cd player took about the same amount of time.

I moved a couple of drives in raid 0 and put it back on the Intel raid and it turns out that the raid is compatible with the intel. I had backed up the drives and was going to restore them after reboot but it was unnecessary.

Well that doesn't require any space and if my computer turns off - its usually a shut down anyhow.. my desktop has only gone to sleep a couple times and was due to default settings.. I eventually changed that

And FYI guys, I fold on my PC which means if I leave it for a while, it will stay on and folding all night and day... I almost never put my computer into a non-shut down off state.

That is good to know.. however my RAID data (the bootsecor and MBR) was stored on my backup drive for some extremely gay reason... which means moving my 4 RAID drives anywhere will completely destroy all my data.. I have it backed up though!

on my laptop I use hibernation, i might format and partition this way because lately its been taking longer and longer to start up from hibernation and shut-down state
Just to note.... the RAID controller has to initilize during system POST. This will add like 15s to a cold boot. If you don't have a BBU, it also displays a message which adds a few more seconds to the boot process.

I wonder what happens if you Hibernate the system with a PERC 5/i and BBU.... and then brownout occurs. Since the data is written to your hard drive, your active session is still stored even if the rest of your system is powerless. When power is restored, can you resume your session?

To answer most of your questions: (1) a fridge cannot cool a PC (2) 64-bit OS for over 3.4GB (3) If a PCIe card fits, it should work (4) Resolution, not screen size (5) If you have a question, it is not news (6) Report, not respond to Spam (7) Single-Rail/Non-Modular PSUs are not always better than Multi-Rail/Modular (8) Sequential does not matter as much as random for OS drives

The controller will resume from hibernation as it it were doing a cold boot.

Hibernation allows you to turn off your computer and remove all power sources - even disassemble.. when it resumes, instead of booting windows, it simply restores the previous "saved" windows session.. which is partial boot up (restoring kernal state and processes) and resuming where ever it left off with the same tasks/ settings running and such

However what I want to know is how sleep will do with this card. many many issues come up with add-on utilities when using S1/sleep mode on computers. My parents' desktops can't go to sleep because something will refuse to stop running.. prob the AV software

Anyone got suggestions for good HDD benching softwares? Ill be benching the drives Friday night if my Sidewinder package arrives.. its in Phoenix right now but it might arrive later tomorrow and I am working till close on Friday night

So, software benchers?
HD Tune
HD Tach
Everest Utilities?

Thats all I "currently" have... suggestions to fetch more?

Duh, you're right... HD's don't need power to store data.

Hmmmm..... do they make BBU for your RAM?

Can I patent the concept of a plug on a motherboard to allow users to add a battery to power RAM and chipset in S1? It's cheaper than a UPS...
