The BBU must be charged for 30 minutes to report as functional.

Then :
1. There's no contact in the cable => use fluke to test the cable
2. battery does not accept charge => discharge by putting a load on it, light bulb with appropriate wattage, test charge, recharge for an hour, test charge again

If it warns about multi-bit errors, dont' ESC through it, press the buttons it wants, like X, Y ...

mine boots in 30 secs from the 2007, LSI to windows logo

btw, this 512MB works : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820134287

Go into the LSI Manager and check the BBU stats. It provides charge percentage info.

The RAID card should only take around 30s extra to initialize. Are you sure it is really 2mins?

No, but it feels like forever when 80% of my boot up time is waiting for my RAID card to initialize

Also, where do I do that for the BBU? I cant find stuff on the BBU

The BBU should be detected on the LSI MegaRaid Storage Manager. I'll take a screenshot when I get home.

Default Large(3TB) array issue with Windows XP

Hi,

Short version:
Windows XP doesn't see my 3x1.5TB -> 3TB raid5 with Perc5i card. Help?

Longer version:
For some reason windows refuses to recognise my 3x1.5 TB - 3TB effective - raid5 array/VD. I don't understand why. Bios sees my drives, reports size/specs properly and says 1 logical drive handled by raid BIOS, also my mainboard's bios sees it, I can choose it in the 'boot from' pulldown in the system properties. Raid bios does see it and successfully inits the VD (takes 2 hours or so)

Perhaps the drives are too big? I did try to make a 1.5TB 'array'/VD with one drive and that didn't work either - not showing in winxp. Havent tried yet with smaller drives (200G?)
Linux (knoppix, not the most recent but not old) seems to sortof recognise it, it says 'very big device' and cannot detect the # of cilinders properly, but once I manually set cylinders in fdisk I created a device and was able to format (I think, mkfs.ntfs reported it was filling the drive with zeroes - slowly, I cut that off)

Anyone seen this before? Solutions?

My specs:

- Intel G35 board
- Small strip of plastic mod in place (frankly Im not even sure if it is required)
- Firmware version (as reported by LSI Megaraid storage manager) 1.03.40-0316
- Firmware Package Version (5.2.1-0067) - I believe this is Dell firmware
- Windows Media Center 2005 (Win XP, I guess) - all latest windows updates applied
- Driver: Dell 2.8.0.32 (as reported by device manager)
- Drives: 3x1.5TB Seagate drives

I guess I'll keep on trying a few things but if anyone has a working 3+ TB raid, preferrably with 1.5TB drives I'd love to hear about it.

Did you enable and assign a letter to the array under the Windows Storage Manager?
