Tried, but it doesn't show up there.

I've now upgraded the firmware to 7.0.1 (lsi firmware) and have gotten the latest driver from LSI (to make it work I had to edit the OEMsetup.inf file to recognise a dell perc5 though.. I'm sort of assuming that is a necessary step?) .. also this driver installed fine afterwards.

Could it be because the VD is currently in Back Init mode? Maybe I need to wait for that to complete? As far as I know back init upgrades a VD from 'degraded-ish' to normal state, but it should be accessible from the start?

(Incidentally when I first started playing with this I let back init complete, no joy back then)

Default OK I figured it out

Turns out Windows XP does not support drives larger than 2-ish TB.

create 2 virtual disks and presto.

Server 2003 x86 SP2 supports GPT disks. If you haven't copied data on the disk yet or have backup, you can delete all partitions and convert the disk to GPT from disk manager. This will give you support for 256TB LUN. x86 (non-64bit OS) systems can't boot from GPT disks though.

What happens if you just remove the BBU?

It maybe that your BBU is dead since it seems to detect it and then not.
