Got my third Raptor yesterday. Spent last night reformatting my OS.
I plan to do benchies tonight. HD Tune Read/Write and PCMark05 Testing for: Raptor 1 - Single Drive Raptor 2 - Single Drive Raptor 3 - Single Drive Raptor 3xRAID0 with ICH9R Raptor 3xRAID0 with PERC 5/i Raptor 3xRAID5 with ICH9R Raptor 3xRAID5 with PERC 5/i I need a real world write test... any ideas? I'll be running my OS on a 7200.10 so its read/write rate will bottleneck any test.

What about a transfer of say a multi gig item from "program files" to your hard drives root?

I also worry about the OS impact on transfers (XP and Vista file transfer rates are different). Of course, I would want to do single large file and multiple file transfers (performance is different). Again... the OS drive might be the bottleneck.

You could do a bitwise copy of a fully fragmented volume and see how long it takes to defrag

Make sure that before you actually make the copy you go to Edit->Preferences->Read and uncheck the box that says "Automatically skip a partition's free space".

Hi Duckie,
If I were to pick up one of these on ebay, do you think I would see noticeable gains over an ICH8R? I will eventually be going to ICH(10?)R with the newer Nehalem chipsets... Any advice would be appreciated. Spending $120 on hard drive hardware is a lot of dough if the performance gains aren't that big.
