You mean cut off the right end of the PCIe slot (as if you were looking down at it) so that it slides in? There wouldn't be any problems with that?

Then why do they make them with an x8 slot design? If that mod will work, I might as well buy a PCI > PCIe adaptor and give that a try 0.o

But I can't give you a good answer as to why its x8 other than the fact that x16 is unnecessary and x4 is too slow.

x4 is good for around 1000MB/s. The fastest I've seen on this card is around 800MB/s. Maybe they wanted extra bandwidth for burst?

I guess, probably for write-back cache and what not (the RAM can saturate it for sure). Plus I'm sure they use the same PCB for multiple models, and I'd imagine that manufacturing costs are kept down that way. And the high end models definitely do need the bandwidth.

But like I said, I'm not sure of much and its just speculation.


Well your speed will be limited to 250MB/s (I got it right this time lol!) minus however much is used by other PCI devices. So I guess the answer to that question would be that it depends on how many of what kind of hard drives you are gonna use and what RAID you put them in

I got one for my southbridge, the heat pipes bend easily so you can bend it flat, i did a little to fit in my pc:



The fitment hardware fits those wire hooks on your card too...
I know I should not dare suggest thermal take, but it might help you...

In fact, you didn't. PCI slot only has about 100 mb/s maximum speed. PCI->PCIe adapter will not magically make it faster... unless you meant PCI-X.
Having PCI Raid adapter for more then two drives is utterly useless.

There are many versions of PCI - 133MB/s, 266MB/s, or 533MB/s. It all depends on what your clock frequency is set at and what the card supports!!!
