Default Raid 0 Not Recognized

Well its my first time playing with Raid 0 and I can't seem to get it to work. I searched and looked around for a few weeks now and can't get it right, so I will ask. I have 2 WD3200AAJS 320gb sata drives that I set up in raid 0. I think I did everything right, but my current system does not see the volume in disk management and when I disconnect my primary HD and try to boot and install windows 7 the disk also does not recognize the raid or any other drive.

Does anybody have any ideas on what I could be doing wrong? I bet its something easy and stupid since I'm a pretty stupid guy.

Did your motherboard come with some type of raid boot disc? Does BIOS recognize the raid? Maybe there is an option in bios.

BIOS recognizes the array so I don't know what the problem is.

Eventually yes, right now I just want the windows to recognize it. But when I get to that point I will unplug this hard drive and fresh install OS on the raid. Than I will plug the other drive in and transfer my files over to the raid, than eventually reformat the old HD and use it as a backup.

You need drivers for your board's RAID controller.

Most are included with modern OS's such as Vista or 7, so you can install to an array without them.

If they are not, you can simply copy them onto a USB flash drive, and insert at the point in the installation where it asks if you have any disk drivers to load.

Your board doesn't appear to have drivers available on the web site for anything other than Audio and LAN. They may be available, however - suggest you contact the manufacturer.

Another option would be to identify what kind of RAID controller your board uses (couldn't find that on the site for your board either) and get drivers from the manufacturer of that controller..

Oh Noooossss!

You're in for a lot of unintended consequences if you unplug a drive while installing an OS. Why would you do that when you have the ability to edit XP's boot.ini and/or use EasyBCD on Vista/7?

And when you get your RAID up and running, you are aware that you can't "transfer" programs (well, you can only transfer the simple ones that don't make registry changes).

This was my biggest fear. I really appreciate you taking all that time to look that up. +rep I look at the website before and didn't find the drivers so I was hoping win 7 had the built in drivers and I was dealing with a different problem. Apparently not. It was a free motherboard combo deal with the CPU on newegg earlier this summer, after the $20 MIR which I finally received last week so I guess I can't complain about that. I will go ahead and try emailing biostar but I highly doubt I get anything solid from them.

Well I was only going to transfer my files, movies, and music. I have all the tools necessary to reinstall all of my programs that I use so thats not a biggie. After transferring my files I was going to swipe that disk clean and use it as a backup for all of my files.

Hey, you should be able to scrounge enough information from the RAID BIOS to determine what chipset it is. I don't recall ever seeing a controller that didn't like to advertise at boot.

Once you have that, you can track down the drivers. Even other boards from other manufacturers that use the same controller will use the same drivers.

From my experience, AMD chipsets need drivers. Just put them on a a USB stick and during the install process it will prompt you for drives, just browse to the folder.

That's very useful. Do you know which drivers, and where he can get them?
