Default Expectations for buyers, sellers, and traders

While all transactions are strictly between the members involved, the following expectations should be helpful in reducing problems in conducting transactions. There's really no magic formula to a good transaction. If all parties communicate well and conscientiously perform their duties in a timely manner, issues will be kept to a minimum.

Please attempt to resolve any issues with the other party in the transaction, and if a resolution cannot be reached, contact The Duke for staff intervention.

Buyers
  • Ask questions of seller prior to sending payment including requesting delivery confirmation, tracking, and/or insurance, if desired and offered
  • Send payment and shipping address in a timely manner
  • Let seller know that item(s) have arrived, and communicate any problems encountered
  • Leave iTrader ratings at the conclusion of the transaction
Sellers
  • Accurately describe item(s) for sale including price, shipping options (services and destinations), and payment methods accepted
  • Reply to buyer questions in a timely manner
  • Provide payment information in a timely manner
  • Securely package item(s) for shipping
  • Let buyer know that item(s) have shipped including tracking number, if applicable
  • Work with buyer if problems are encountered
  • Leave iTrader ratings at the conclusion of the transaction
Traders
  • Ask questions and clearly define terms of transaction such as timing of shipments (concurrent shipping or shipping upon receipt) and shipping service used
  • Provide shipping address in a timely manner
  • Securely package item(s) for shipping
  • Let other party know that item(s) have shipped including tracking number, if applicable
  • Let other party know that item(s) have arrived, and communicate any problems encountered
  • Work with other party if problems are encountered
  • Leave iTrader ratings at the conclusion of the transaction

Also I would like to add that if you are selling multiple items, please leave the prices they were sold at and the name of the buyer next to the item, so when someone looks at the buyer's trader rating they will be able to tell if they bought the $5 thermal paste, or the $450 8800gtx.

Exclamation Follow Through!

I would like to remonstrate members here that think it is okay to jump into a FS thread and say they are going to buy something and make an agreement to buy something and then do not buy something.

This is bad in several ways. First off it's rude as hell. Second it ruins the sale. How does it ruin a sale? Many times a sale will generate a certain amount of interest and/or excitement: a number of members will want to buy the same thing. Once one member has taken that opportunity away from the seller to sell to a REAL buyer many times the interest fades and now the seller is at a disadvantage. It also is unfair to to other members intersted in purchasing.

DO NOT fail to follow through with your agreements here.

OCN FS threads are based on trust and repect. Blowing off a purchase is disrespectful and a breach of trust. That alone should be enough to make anyone think twice before just "forgetting" they bought something and never paying.

If some issue comes up it is a simple matter to communicate your change of fortune. That is completely accetpable. Stuff does happen...plans do change.

But to simply blow off your commitment to purchase is UNACCEPTABLE and will result (from me anyway) in a NEGATIVE trader reponse.

Count on it.

Say what you are going to do and DO WHAT YOU SAY.

I have to agree with everything said here! I had two potential buyers for items in my FS Thread, so being courteous as I am, I "Pended" them. After 48 hours of no communication and several PM's to the potential buyers, I PMed them stating that I was going to sell to another party, and still have yet to get a response from either one.

I felt bad for doing it, but come on, 48 hours with no reply to PM's!

Alot of us sell things on here because we would like/need money quickly, and when it takes longer than expected, we all have to do what we have to do!!

If you agree to buy something here, it's should be no different then you agreeing to buy something on ebay. If you fail to pay for it after agreeing to buy it (for any reason other then finding out the item is not as described, or that it's a scam), you should expect to lose your privileges.

We'll be clarifying the rules for trader rating soon, and I don't think it's unreasonable to give someone a negative if they back out of a sale for no good reason (the operative words being "for no good reason"). There's a big difference between stringing someone along and having a legitimate reason for needing to back out of a deal, and allowances need to be made for legitimate reasons (as CD stated above).

Also, following eBay's lead to some extent, we're going to curtail retaliatory negative feedback. Negative feedback may be left by the buyer or seller for legitimate reasons, but malicious or retaliatory feedback will be removed and will receive an infraction. More details to come soon.

well i for one got a negative feedback because i had to back out of a deal.. my dad said i couldnt get what i wanted so i had to back out and in result i was given negative feedback

on top of that.. i got another one because i forgot a ide cable i offered to the buyer for free.. so because i forgot to put it in while rushing to the post office i got a - feedback

anyways i cant wait for the new rules...

also when packaging a item you should always have a anti-static bag, bubble wrap, peanuts. and pack it right and not just throw it in there..
you should always pack it as if it were to fall off a 2 story roof

You would need to contact individual sellers for their shipping details.
