Has it been registered? And if so do you know if you can change the account name?

You dont register on bf2 you only use the key to log into as a unique person. It is kind of like diablo 2

you sign in with a username and password but the key is not attached to that account. The username and password is for your unlocked weapons and such. Just like in diablo you can change the cd key and use the same account or use a diffrent account on the same key

CD key is for the product only, it does not affect your user account. Think of it this way, you can have a server (CD-key), but you can creat as many user groups as you want (account), and use it on any maching in that server (BF2).
