Default SFS in Windows Server 2003 Standard

I've never had an issue with permissions before until now. This is not the best security practice but its a file server in my home that my room-mates use to back up to.

I enabled the guest account and I am sharing 3 hards-drives: Media A, B, C.
They all have the same permissions with giving the guest account all read/write/modify.

When I use my XP machine and run \\tehsource\Media B or Media C I can access all of the subfolders and files.

However, when I run \\tehsource\Media A I can see the subfolders but my access is denied to open the subfolders. I am completely lost as I've checked and rechecked policies and I've never had this happen before until now.

Any ideas?

Just a thought, but were you not using AD for the sharing? Can you open the subfolders using another Admin account through any of the other computers (whether S03 or XP)?

I actually found the problem. I set the share permissions/security settings with the "File Manager" but the drive in question didn't get the NTFS permissions changed. Hence why I could detect the drive on the network but not access shares.

Precisely. In fact, it is a best practice to give "everyone" "full control" on the share permission and use the NTFS permission to give access to who and what you chose.

Ya it's been an interesting couple of weeks. They've moved from a lab personnel supervisor to a systems admin. I've been getting hands on training with OS X server and Server 2003 plus our Ubuntu lab servers. I'm not too impressed with X server but who knows maybe one day we'll get the happy family to play nice. It's a learning experience and one that I truly enjoy. Thanks for all of the help.
