I just set up a server on Yellow Dog Linux and put a phpinfo file as index.php but php doesn't seem to work. I've installed apache, mysql and php. and added the AddType lines in httpd.conf.

Ok, PHP works but the .php extension doesn't. .phps, .php5 etc work but not .php, why is that?

Check the AddType, etc lines for .php5, phps and see what's the difference between them and .php.

Check the apache config file to see if it is looking for index.php as an index file.
