Hey folks,
__________________I'm looking to pick up a new UPS for my WHS. It doesn't need to keep the machine on for longer than it takes for the machine to receive the info from the UPS that the power is off and that it's on battery mode, stop appropriate things, and shut down the system softly and safely. It's hurricane season here, so I'm sure I'll be testing how often the power zonks out while I'm at work in this new apartment. No real budget to worry about. Though I'd rather spend less of course. I have no idea about brand qualities when it comes to UPS's. Also, not all of them tend to state what kind of software they come with for automated shut down of PC upon battery use. I could research it extensively, but my 72 hour work week is biting into that kind of leisure time. So I'm hoping to tap into some wonderful folk here at OCN. I was eyeballing this cheap little rosewill unit at the Egg. It looks like it covers my server's energy need at max load (just in case) for long enough to shut down, but I don't really see anything about software to automate that (unless WHS has that built in, I'm new to it, so I'm not sure). My WHS server is running on an Antec 430watt PSU, a Regor 240 (utilizing Cool & Quiet so it reduces it when not needed), and about 4 HDD's (WD greens) right now, with room to expand. I figure the machine at full load doesn't use more than about 230 watts or so (used a calc to get a ball park figure). Any suggestions? Very best,

Does it have software so that when the power is out and it's using the battery that the system shuts down safely? Very best,

Just a note, you don't need to use Powerchute. Windows has built in UPS options under power management. PowerChute does provide more information and statistics. Just get any UPS with a USB port.
Does anyone know how to force Windows to shutdown after less than 1 minute? I want my system to shutdown after 20-30s on UPS to save power. PowerChute and Windows UPS options have a minimum of only 1min. Since you're using WHS, you can also use the add-in Grid Junction: http://www.kentdome.com/gridjunction
