Hey folks,
__________________Consider Windows Home Server and/or Windows Server 2008. I'm thinking about picking up some cheap USB webcams just for kicks and was wondering what the most friendly software would be for using them (monitoring) and viewing their feeds remotely (via internet, remotely, not from a machine on the home network). Any advise on choice of software and methods of viewing feeds? Thanks! Very best,

Camsource for Linux is good, and iirc there's an open source windows app that has a nice HTTP hosting feature built in right to the get-go.

I do this with 2 cameras on an XP server, I just use Windows Media Encoder and put them into a link on my webserver.

Heya,

-- Anything more specific from anyone? Edit: Checking into Fwink and Yawcam. Fwink is super easy. It lets me upload via FTP to my web server. Yawcam is very configurable. Also does the uploading to web server. I guess I'll try both. Anyone have any experience with either? Edit: Wow. Yawcam is perfect. It does everything. The configuration is easy but also in depth for tons of options so you can get up and go and also get very detail oriented. Very nice. Free. Runs great on my netbook too (java based software, it runs fast and fine on my EEEPC). Now I just have to see if I can have several cams operating and uploading to the web server from one running process of Yawcam.... Next will try Sourcecam on Ubuntu (Linux) on a laptop since it draws less power than my server. Very best,
